Chapter 12: Caught

Aimee's P.O.V

I was playing with Ethan when I noticed dad coming towards me. I jumped down from the play equipment and ran towards him. He smiled before he lifted me into his arms. "Where is Sophie Aim's." He asked me as he placed me on the floor.

"She's...umm...she's getting ice cream daddy." I lied as I smiled at him with an innocent smile. Dad raised his eyebrows at me.

"You aren't very good at lying Aimee," I looked down at the floor a second later

A second later Sophie came out of the woods holding Joshua's hand. They were smiling and laughing until Sophie saw dad. Joshua tried to disappear as he saw dad but it was too late. Dad had already seen them holding hands and laughing.

Sophie looked away from dad as he picked me up again and went towards her. As soon as we reached her he grabbed her hand and pulled her with him without saying a word to me or to Sophie.

He was silent all the way home. Sophie glared at me as I looked at her as we reached the front door. "Nice going Aimee. You little snitch." Sophie said to me. I was about to speak when dad spoke for me.

"Don't you dare blame your sister for this Sophia," He growled as we went inside. "Something set of the alarm on your necklace so I came to investigate to make sure everything was okay." Dad told her.

"You were spying on me?" Sophie yelled

"No. But your mother and I are arranging a time to meet up with Max. From now on Max has to go with you every time you go somewhere. He will also be with you in school and take you to and from school." Dad yelled back at her a second later.

"Why are you treating me like a baby!"

"Because I obviously can't trust you to be honest with me. Oh and you left your five year old sister on her own while you did whatever the hell you were doing in the woods." Dad replied to Sophie as he placed me on the ground and told me to go upstairs.

Alex's P.O.V

Sophie crossed her arms. "I hate you Alex. Why do you have to ruin everything?" She screamed before she stomped upstairs. She didn't seem to understand that I was trying to protect her from her step dad. He had recently escaped prison and Max did some kind of background check and realised Josh had contact with him.

For the rest of the day Sophie didn't come out of her bedroom. It was only when it was dinner time and she didn't come downstairs when I started to get a little suspicious. I went upstairs and knocked on her bedroom door. I opened the door and stepped inside. My heart skipped a beat when I realised she wasn't in her room and her window was wide open.

Sophie's P.O.V

I shivered as I held onto the strap of my backpack. If Alex was going to treat me like a baby I wasn't going to stay with them. I shivered again as a cold wind blew past me. I had contacted Joshua and he told me he would meet me at our place in the woods. He said he knew someone who we could stay with until we were able to find a place of our own

I smiled as soon as I reached our place and I saw him in the distance. I ran towards him before I threw my arms around him. He looked at the necklace around my neck. "Isn't that some sort of tracker device?" He asked me a second later. He reached out to take it off of me.

"No! Don't touch it! If someone else touches it, it will set an alarm off back at home. Only I can take it off." I said to him before I took it off and threw it to the ground.

"Stamp on it." Joshua ordered. I did as I was told and stamped on the necklace until it broke. Now they couldn't track me down. I felt so proud of myself that I did that. Joshua smiled at me before he kissed my nose. He took my hand and lead the way to his friends house a second later.

"Don't worry Sophie. You'll love it there." He said as something glistened in his eyes.

"I'm sure I will." I smiled back at him a second later.

He looked behind him a second later and smirked at me. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked him confused.

"Because he's with me." I froze as soon as I heard the voice that still haunted my nightmares. I turned around to see my step dad grinning at me a second later.

"Nice to see you again princess." He said
