Chapter Sixteen: She Makes Dirty Words Sound Pretty

This is Violet? I had only ever seen pictures of the woman standing before me, and they held no comparison to her.

Vampires could change their appearances quite fast if needed, and it seemed as though that was exactly what Violet had done.

"Good to see you, Gage," Violet murmured, smiling wickedly. Her extended fangs glimmered in the lighting, and a shiver rolled down my spine in response.

There was just something about Violet that made her threatening, even to a vampire.

Gage took a quick step forward, then froze at the sound of Violet's laughter.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," she advised, shaking her head at him. "Do you really think I'd come here unprepared?"

My eyes flickered away from her to find the three male Executioners from the library standing near the main doors.

"How do you like Brooke?" Violet asked knowingly, her smile returning once again. "Isn't she just a doll?"

"She's dead," I growled, moving around Gage to stand beside him. "I killed her."

The news of Brooke's death didn't faze her. "Figures," Violet commented, "I knew she had it coming."

Fuck, I cursed internally. Where's Aden? I scanned the surrounding crowd anxiously, but I couldn't find him.

"Why are you here, Violet?" Gage demanded suddenly. "What exactly are you up to?"

"Like I'd tell you," she scoffed. "That would give away my whole plan, and I won't let that be revealed until the time's right."

"Why are you here?" Gage repeated.

Violet gave him an offended look. "Is this art show not open to the public?" Her words made me feel uneasy. I needed to find Aden. Now. "I came to admire the work of this town's students."

To my left, out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Aden cross my line of vision.

Thank God he's still alive, I thought, relieved. But how do I get him out of here while slipping under the radar?

"You should leave," Gage grumbled, his voice thick with controlled rage. "I don't want you close to so many of the people we care for."

"If I did that, it would defeat the purpose of my plan though," Violet said with a smirk.

"Fuck your plan!" Gage yelled a little too loudly. The surrounding humans glanced warily at the fighting vampires, unsure of what was going on. Those who were within a four foot radius of us, backed away uneasily. Startled, Gage quickly lowered his voice, "If you came here to simply admirethe art work, then why did you bring so many Executioners?"
