Chapter Seventeen: This Is Not The End

"Gage?!" I shot up from the couch, and ran over to him. "What the hell happened to you?"

Gage ignored me; instead of answering, he pushed past me and headed down the hall.

"Gage...?" I called out after him.

He didn't turn to face me, just kept walking until he reached his bedroom door, then he went inside.

"What's going on?" Aden asked, getting to his feet and moving to stand beside me.

I stared down the hall blankly. "I'm...not sure..."

"Do you need to go after him?"

I glanced back up at Aden sheepishly. "Would you mind? I don't have to...but I think Gage might need me."

"Of course I don't mind," Aden told me reassuringly, his fingers caressing the exposed skin on my arm. "Would you mind telling me where I'm supposed to sleep though...? I'm a bit tired."

"I think the best choice would be my room," I said softly. "I refuse to make you sleep on the couch, and we don't have a guest bedroom. My room's at the end of the hall, on the right. You can go ahead in there and do whatever it is that you need to in order to get comfortable. I'll be back in after I talk to Gage. Is that alright?"

He nodded, his eyes a bright blue-green color. "Sounds good to me."

I waited for Aden to enter my room before slowly making my way down the hall. Gage's door was shut, but it wasn't locked.

"Gage...?" I asked, rapping my knuckles lightly on the thin wood.

I heard a cough, and what sounded like Gage sputtering in response.

"I'm coming in," I warned, reaching down to grab the knob. "Try and make sure you're decent."

After waiting a respectable amount of time, I twisted the handle, and pushed my way inside.

Gage stood, hunched over the edge of his bed, his shirt long forgotten, and his belt unbuckled. Blood was streaked across his pale flesh, and oozed out of gashes on his back and arms.

"What the hell happened?" I demanded, slamming his bedroom door closed and rushing over to him. I grabbed his blood stained shirt from the floor, and pressed the fabric to the deepest cut on him. It was healing quickly, but not fast enough.

"Violet..." Gage coughed. "She must've sent the Executioners after me when I left...they attacked me..."

"What? Why?!"

He shrugged, bringing a hand up to his lips to wipe the blood away. "How the fuck am I supposed to know? I left when I thought it'd be safe, but...they came after me anyway."
