chapter 5

I stayed in my room for the rest of the evening. Gale tried to get me to come out of my room, but I just didn't. Want to associate with vampires. I want to call my brother. I want him to know I'm alive.

Someone knocked on my door and I allowed whoever it was in. Gale stood in the door with a smile on his face.

"Mom said you can come outside tonight. The council has left for the day," he said.

I sat up smiling. "Really?"

He grabbed my arm and we practically ran down the stairs and threw the door.

"We all are going on a hike! Come on! It will be fun!" Gake said.

"Calm down! I will go!" I said.

"Oh joy a human is coming with us. Come on Ashton. We can get ahead. I don't want to be close to the human," Jace sneered.

"What crawled up your butt?" I asked.

He made a face. "You did."

Ashton only made a disapproving face at Jace.

"She's coming! Yay!" Lillian came out the door holding Kerah's hand.

"Yeah should be fun. I haven't really been hiking in yers though.....," I added.

"Great," Jace mummbled loud enough so I could hear.

"That's fine! Kerah is a slow walker and I usually walk with her so you can join us!" Lillian said ignoring her brother.

They started walking, so I just followed them. I figured they would be hiking in the forest in front of their house, but they didn't walk that direction. They headed to their garage.

They began grabbing things from the garage and throwing them into the cars.

"Lilian take Kerah in your Porsche, and Gale you can take-" Jace started.

"Actually I'm gointg to ride with Gale this time," Ashton interrupted.

Jace looked hurt, but sjook it off. "Fine. I will take the human."

I got in his BMW and ashton got into Gale's Range Rover. Jace began to drive on the rode and that's when I began asking questions.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"See those mountains up there?" He asked pointing to some very high mountains.

I looked at him unsure. "Yeah?"

"Well that's were we are going. We will also be camping there. Don't worry we have coats and hiking bookts. Humans are so weak."

"I'm not weak. If I was weak I would've ben dead from a vampire. If I was weak I wouldn't have resisted Jerimiah's controls. If I was weak I would've died with my parents. If I was weak I would've broke down and died when Jerimiah taunted ne saying that I killed my parent because k didnr help them. So do not say I am weak ever again."

Silence. I wasn't weak. Vampires always thought we were weak, but no. Some humans we're stronger than vampires. Not in strength, but in hope.

Jace's mouth was clenched. I didn't care. He had no right to tell me that.

"How much longer?" I asked.

"About two hours," he said.

"I-m sorry about that," I said. "Jerimiah would tell me I was weak every day. I began believing him and if you and Ashton wouldn't have found me then I probley would've died a week later."

He smiled. "About time you thanked me for saving you."

I rolled my eyes. "I wouldn't say I was thinking you."
