Stevie woke up feeling his arms around her and for the first time in too long she felt completely safe. She turned around in his embrace and saw him smiling back at her. "How long have you been awake?" She asked, stretching her arms out and yawning slightly.
"Not long," he replied, sitting up against the headboard. "I didn't want to move, I was scared I would hurt you." Stevie smiled at his sweetness.
"What's the time? I'm surprised Sara hasn't barged in here yet." She craned her neck to look at the time, seeing it was only 6:30 she groaned. "Great, only a few hours sleep, I probably look like shit."
"You're beautiful Steph." Lindsey said simply before kissing her on the head and getting up. Slowly he started to put on his jeans and shoes, Stevie sat up and watched him and laughed at his little mound of clothes he made the night before. He looked up, "why are you laughing?"
Stevie smiled, "oh nothing, just your gift for house keeping." She gestured towards his pile of clothing.
"I'm sorry but I thought you were the cleaning lady out of the two of us?" He said with a cheeky smile.
"Well thank god, from the looks of things if it was you than we would have starved!" She doubled over laughing at herself and Lindsey watched on enjoying her laugh.
"those were the best years of my life." He said seriously.
"We were dirt poor Lindsey." Stevie replied, calming down from her laughing fit.
"Yeah but even now, I mean I've made it, I'm successful, I've been on tour, sold records, made money." He stopped to take a breath. "But somehow I was happier when we were nothing, no money, no fans, no one but us."
Stevie smiled at him, she had tears welling in her eyes but she couldn't let them fall, not now. "I know we were poor but, as cliche as it sounds, we were rich in love and Stevie, I've loved you until this day, I don't think I can ever stop loving you. And not just because you cooked and cleaned for me at home and then went and did it for other people to pay the rent." Stevie laughed remembering their early days. "But because you are the most beautiful, talented woman I've ever met. You have the kindest heart and you loved me even when I was an ass. I know I didn't deserve you and I know why you left, you finally realised that you deserved so much more than what I was giving you. I was so angry at you for a long time after you left until I realised that it was my own fault. It was me, and I don't blame you because honestly I would have done the same exact thing. But now I see your beautiful daughter and I know how much I fucked up because the only thing better than being with you, would be being with you and having a little replica of you that is half me." He realised he had started to ramble so he decided to just shut up and wait for her reaction. She still had tears threatening to fall and she was struggling to come up with a response. Instead she just uttered the first words that came to her mind. "I love you too Linds." Slowly she got out of the bed, never breaking eye contact. She walked over to him and got up on her tippy toes to gently press her lips against his. He pulled her closer to him by the waist and deepened it as he tried to put all of his words into this one action to show her how much he truly meant it. She ran her fingers through his hair and moaned softly into his mouth. It was turning heated and hands were beginning to wonder...
"Momma?" They pulled apart quickly, having not heard the door open. Stevie's cheeks were red and she quickly ducked out of Lindsey's embrace, Sara was standing in the door way and with her little pink onesie on and her teddy bear clutched tightly under her arm.
"Hi baby!" Stevie said in an overly enthusiastic tone which she silently cursed herself for before leaning down to scoop Sara up.
"What were you doing mommy? Is that Windsey?" Stevie looked down at her daughter and for the life of her could not come up with any better response than, "oh nothing don't worry about it sweetie." Sara was still confused so Stevie thought it would be best to change the subject. "Are you hungry for some pancakes Sarie?" And Sara nearly jumped right out of Stevie's arms at the mention of pancakes.
"Yes please mommy! I love pancakes!" She quickly stopped, her attention was caught by something on Stevie's face, she brought up her little hand to touch the stitched up cut on Stevie's cheek. "What happened momma?" Stevie panicked everything that Sara was asking about would be hard for someone well older than her nearly three year old daughter.
"Mommy tripped over and I hurt my cheek. It's ok though because Lindsey helped me and now I'm all better, that's why he's here." Sara looked like she was a little confused but just took Stevie's cheeks in her hands and placed a soft baby kiss right on her face. "All better now!" She said happily, mimicking what her mother does whenever she hurt herself.
Stevie had to stop the tears welling in her eyes over just how kind hearted and sweet her little daughter was. "Alright Miss, do you want to make the pancakes or should I?" Stevie asked, walking out of the bedroom and leaving a giddy, lovestruck Lindsey seemingly stuck to that one place.
