Note: All of the flashbacks will be in bold throughout the whole story

This week felt like it lasted a lifetime. Elaina was doing perfectly fine with her first week of school, but I, on the other hand, was doing absolutely horrible. I was so distracted with everything that had happened recently, that I just pushed school to the side.

I was relieved this morning when I wasn't forced to wake up by an alarm clock. Once I was awake, I walked downstairs to the kitchen to get some breakfast.

As I walked into the kitchen, I heard genuine laughs all around. I looked at Elaina—still in her pajamas—was trying to teach my mother how to cook, but my mother was failing miserably, causing all of the laughter.

I looked at my father watching them with amusement and laughing along.

"What's going on?" I asked everyone.

All at once, everyone's heads turned towards me and started smiling and laughing.

"Good morning, honey," my mother said to me. "We're just making breakfast. It should be done in a couple of minutes."

"Not if you're working on it," Elaina criticized but also laughing along.

My mom looked down at whatever was in the skillet. Pancakes? Eggs? I don't think she even knew. She laughed at whatever it was then looked back at Elaina. "You should probably take over," my mother said laughing. She handed the spatula over to Elaina and sat at the table with me and dad.

"So Liam," my father said. "How did you sleep last night?"

"Fine," I said shrugging.

"You didn't have any girls up there last night did you?" My father usually doesn't talk to me about stuff like how I slept let alone if there were any girls with me. He was obviously joking around but I didn't think it was funny.

"No dad," I explained "No girls."

She came into my room quietly trying not to disturb the whole house. She came in with a blanket wrapping around her body to keep her warm.

"What are you doing?" I asked her quietly.

She walked closer to me. "I can't sleep," she explained. "And I thought you would be up so we could talk."

"Talk about what?" I asked.

She came over and jumped on my bed. We both laughed not caring about staying quiet anymore. "Well, first of all, that kiss," She explained to me. "I can't stop thinking about it."

I couldn't stop thinking about it either. I never thought that my first kiss would be with her, a girl I barely knew.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" She asked me. It seemed off topic, but I knew with her, it probably was related to this in some way.

I laughed and shook my head. "No, I don't. Why?" I asked.

She grinned and looked deeply into my eyes. "Because I want to kiss you again. And if you had a girlfriend, I couldn't do that."

"If I had a girlfriend, we wouldn't have kissed in the first place," I explained.

She shrugged. "Details, details. But haven't you been wanting to kiss me again?" She asked as if she already knew the answer which she pretty much did know the answer to.

I leaned in and kissed her. She wasn't expecting it at first. Her lips tightened up but when she realized that I was kissing her, her lips loosened. I didn't want to remove my lips from hers. I felt safe pressed up against her. I felt like I was wanted.

"You're a great kisser," she giggled.

That night, we stayed up talking about each other. We found out that our lives were totally different. Her parents were struggling to pay the bills while my family wasted money on stupid things we were never going to use.

We fell asleep sometime after one in the morning but when I woke up around six, she was gone.

~ ~ ~

My parents were talking to me, but I was only listening to certain words. I mostly focused on Elaina. She was at the stove making breakfast, but moving her hips to some tune that was stuck in her head.

She was so...different from every other girl I met. She was confident, outgoing, and understanding. She also has a soft side that she obviously wanted to expose, but is standoffish when talking about her feelings.

This girl has me mesmerized. She shows up and it feels like my whole world has been flipped upside down and we're both fourteen again. I can't lie and say I don't miss her because I do and I wonder what might have happened if I didn't push her away.

Elaina came over to the table and put the food down on our plates. It was pancakes.

"Why don't we all eat outside?" My mother suggested.

My parents went off on their own, but Elaina and I ate by the pool.

"So be honest with me," Elaina started. "Do you really like that Emma chick or are you just trying to get over someone?"

I laughed. "Both."

"Both?" She questioned. "How?"

"When we first started dating, I really just wanted to get over this one girl," I explained. "But then, I fell in love with her."

"Oh," Elaina said. "Now, I kinda feel like an ass."

I shook my head. "Don't be. Emma can be kinda rude sometimes and she was rude to you because she's extremely jealous. If you were dating a guy like that, I would be questioning your feelings for him too."

We both sat in silence for a while as we ate our pancakes.

I could tell Elaina had something on her mind when she started playing with her food on her plate.

"Can I ask you something else?" She finally asked me.

"Yeah," I said. "Go ahead."

"Who was the girl?"

"What do you mean?"

"Who was the girl you were trying to get over?" She asked.

I should have seen this question coming.

Emma and I kissed each other on my fifteenth birthday party when a whole bunch of girls wanted to play spin the bottle. We both felt an instant connection, but I just wanted a rebound.

I started playing with my food debating whether I should tell her the truth or lie. I knew if I lied, then it would come back to haunt me. I took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes.

"That girl was you. I was trying to get over you."

Author's Note:

So I finally updated. I hadn't realized until the last minute that I didn't write a chapter  (whoops) so I quickly wrote this.

Tell me what you think about the characters so far! I'm also open to any suggestions about anyting!

I probably won't be able to upload a new chapter for awhile since I am going camping this week and the week after that, I am super busy. Just giving you a heads up so you don't think I forgot.

Anyways, I hope you liked this chapter! I might have written it last minute, but it just came naturally to me and I love it.

Don't forget to hit that little star to tell me you like my story!
