// 4 days before Christmas //

"Wonwoo! Yah! Jeon Wonwoo!" Mimi called over to me. She ran up to me, carrying something in her hands. I was on my way back to my apartment, planning to stop by 'READical' to borrow a book.

I was confused but I waited for her to catch up to me. "What is it, Mimi?" I asked, my hands in my pocket. She was out of breath for a while, so I helped her by rubbing her back.

Mimi finally stood up, cleared her throat and said, "Jeon Wonwoo, we've been friends for a while, right?". I nodded and she continued, "I came to realized that my feelings for you have grown.."

Her voice started becoming small, I leaned in, "Jeon Wonwoo, I like you very much."

I was confused.

Then, I felt a sudden pressure on my lips and something being shoved into my hands. That 'something' was a box. Mimi quickly pulled away and turned to walk the other way while waving her arms up in the air, "See you later, Wonwoo! Don't eat all of those cookies~."

Now, I was very confused.

-

Mimi.

Park Mimi.

I thought to myself as I lay in bed.

She's very pretty. She's very smart. Quite tomboy-ish but can be feminine at times. She loves fashion and works part time at a hair salon. She's kind to animals and is sarcastic to guys who tries to flirt with her. But one thing you need to know about Mimi, is that she's straight-forward.

Very straight forward.

But out of all of the guys on campus,

she likes m-

"Wonwoo-ah, your mum is calling." Bong San-hyung appeared in my door way.

My body immediately straightened up. "E-Eomma?" I said carefully, as if I was double-confirming that I didn't here what he said wrong. He hand me the phone.

"E-Eomma?"

"Ah, son~"

"Where are you? You haven't call me since I moved to America."

"I'm sorry, Wonwoo-ah. I'm still in Korea. Now, son.."

"Yes?"

"I'm going to tell you why you needed to move to America, I hope you can understand."

"Okay, Eomma."

"Wonwoo-ah, when you were little, your dad borrowed money from loan sharks. He swore to pay them back once you were 20 years old. But since, he's not here with us anymore, I needed to pay off the debts in your dad's stead-"

I was in disbelief.

You see, when I was little, my dad drank a lot. During the day and during the night.

He was an alcoholic.

Mum and I would be hiding every time he came back home drunk. One night, I saw him beating my mum because she wouldn't let him drink anymore. I couldn't do anything and I was afraid, so I hid myself in my room. I blocked my ears from my dad's drunk shouts and my mum's cries of pain while tears streamed down my face.

He passed away,  2 days after that incident. My mum cried at his funeral. I didn't.

I couldn't believe after all those times being drunk, he was borrowing money from loan sharks and now, my mum needs to pay the debts off.

"How much?"

"Son, please understand-"

"I said, how much was it?! How much did that bastard borrowed?!" I screamed to the phone.

"Wonwoo, it's going to be okay. I'm almost finish paying off the debt, you don't have to worry. A- Wonwoo-ah, mum needs to go now. Bye, I love you!"

Then she hung up.

Thoughts were running through my head. My heart was burning like a fire. I gripped onto the phone. Hot tears streamed down my face as I bit my lip.

Why? Just why didn't you tell me, Mum?!

I threw the phone. Bits and pieces of the phone flew everywhere.

Bong San-hyung quickly appeared and asked what had happened as he saw the mess. I took my jacket and went straight towards the door, only to be stopped by his huge body.

"Move."

"I can't let you do that, Wonwoo-ah."

"I said, move!" My fist connected with his jaw as I walked out the door.

I quickly called for a taxi.

While on the way, I took out my phone and texted the only person I can trust right now and I know believes in me.

JW: Mingyu-ah, wait for me at the airport in an hour or so, it's an emergency.
