The next morning, Beatrix and I got ready for school quickly. We pulled on the outfits we said we'd wear. In a short matter of minutes, we were prepared to tackle our next day of being sophomores.
"Hey, should we walk together or with our friends to school?" Beatrix asked me.
I saw Will approaching and she saw her friends coming too so we decided that we'd go our separate ways and meet up later.
When Will caught up to me, we exchanged our greetings.
"How's everything?" I asked him cheerfully.
"Eh, a bit boring. How was your night?" He asked me in return.
"It was practically magical. I still can't tell if it was a dream or a reality! You would never guess what happened at the park yesterday! So I was sitting at the bench and Grayson was playing basketball and he accidentally hit me so he apologized like the gentleman he is. He offered to show my how to play and we played together and had so much fun! Afterwards, we laid out on the grass and talked. Then we decided to go to Dancing Pizzas for dinner and he paid for everything! He was a complete gentleman! He even came into my house to apologize for keeping me out late even though it wasn't necessary. I'm pretty sure it was a date but I have no clue..." I babbled on endlessly.
Will smiled and nodded the entire time I rambled.
"Sounds amazing. I bet you enjoyed it," he said, almost sounding like he forced himself to say."How are things with your crush?" I asked him, smirking.
"Okay I guess," he replied.
"You have to let me meet her! I bet she's cool," I said, giving him a wink.
"Yeah... She's in my... Um uh lunch period! Yeah!" He told me nervously.
At this point I was pretty positive he was referring to me. All the little hints are pointing at me. I think I might have even heard him called me cute once. I wasn't sure how I was going to turn him down without making things awkward.
"Who is she?" I asked nervously.
"She's, uh," he said looking around, "Beatrix! Of course!" He said, narrowing his eyes on her.
"Wow! Really?" I asked, a little disappointed he wasn't talking about me all those times.
A few certain thoughts even made its way into my mind: what if he only pretended to be my friend just so he could get close to my sister? Could it be that he could be using me? Did he even really want to be friends with me?
I'm being ridiculous! I'm sure he just became friends with me because he's nice. I'm overthinking things.
"Hello? Cherry? Earth to Cherry. Earth to Cherry!" Will was waving his hands in front of my dazed face when I suddenly snapped back to reality.
"Oh haha. Sorry, I was just thinking about stuff," I laughed it off.
"So, are you ready to go back and see the love of your life?" Will teased me while softly bumping my shoulder.
I gave him a closed-lipped smile with a hint of sarcasm lingering in my eyes. "Yeah totally! Like I can totally go up to him and be all like, 'Hey, you're hot! Wanna go out with me so I can stop obsessing with you from a distance?'" I joked.
"Wow Cherry. Although I do understand what you mean about the obsessing from a distance. I do that with my crush," he laughed. I playfully nudged him with my elbow.
My smile fell when I suddenly remembered he said he liked Beatrix. It's not a bad thing. It's not a bad thing. It's just unexpected, that's all. Also should I tell him that she's crushing on another guy or should I encourage him to chase a hopeless dream? Either way, he'll be crushed... I can't do that to him.
