Toris POV

I'd run off to Pete's room again after hearing the news about Patrick. Meagan was still there, so I was stuck waiting outside in the hallway. I fell asleep there, only waking up when Megan gently shook me awake.

"Tori, if you needed a room to lay down in you could've come in." She said softly.

There must have been something in the way I looked at her, because she looked immediately worried.

"They told you about Patrick." She said.

I nodded.

"I'm so sorry, Tori. But don't give up just yet. Patrick isn't dead yet."she said.

I nodded. "did you come here to be with Pete?" She asked. I nodded again. "Then let's go in. And you can stay with him while I go see my son." She said.

She helped me to my feet and we went into Pete's room. He was sleeping. "Does he know?" I asked.

"Yes. I told him." Megan said.

"How is he?" I asked.

"Optimistic. Like I told you to be." She said.

She hugged me and left me alone with my best friend.

I woke up around 4 am to Andy coming into the room. "Tori, come on. The doctor wants to talk to us." He said.

Pete was sound asleep next to me, so I quietly got out of my chair and went to the waiting room with Andy.

"Miss Eaton? My name is Johnathan Dillard. I'm your fiance's surgeon." a tall man with graying hair said.

"How is he?" I asked.

"I have good news and bad news." He said. "The good news is, Patrick is alive and breathing. The bad news is, he needs help. We've had to put him in an induced coma until we can be sure that he can support himself."

I sighed. "Okay. What does that mean?" I asked.

"It means we got the bullet out, and we've managed to repair a lot of damage. However, his lungs don't seem to be able to function properly, hes on a ventilator." He said.

"Be honest." I said. "Is he going to die?"

The doctor looked surprised. "Honestly, Miss Eaton? I have no idea."
