Knight

Chapter 7

After a couple of days, Elle doesn't have any pain. The burn marks were starting to scab, and we're constantly itchy. Of course Knight was attending her every need and made sure she didn't scratch. Elle kept asking how the female mountain lion was doing and whether they were able to save her paw. Knight reassured her everyday that the mountain lion was healing and released into the Wild Zone of Reservation. The more altered New Species lived there because they didn't like being stared at for the enhanced animal characteristics.

Elle asked Knight, "could we go visit my mountain lion today? I'm finally feeling better, and I want to see how she's doing."

Knight was a little cautious on the idea of Elle going into the Wild Zone. "I don't know if that's the smartest decision little one. Most of the New Species there do not like humans at all and might try to attack you. Many of them are my friends since we were kept in the same testing facility, but that won't protect you. I don't want you in any danger."

"If I'm with you wont that prove I'm not a mean human and accept New Species as they are. I would never judge someone on their appearance, especially because it was not their choice to look that way. I really want to go check on her and see how she's doing. The last time I saw her she was in so much pain, I need the reassurance of seeing her myself."

Knight was hoping none of the Wild Zone New Species would take offense Elle was visiting and that they keep to themselves. He would hate to have to fight males he considered brothers, but would do anything to protect her.

"Alright let's get ready so we can see your mountain lion. But you have to listen to me, and don't stare at any New Species you may see. Keep your gaze lowered so they know you're no threat and hopefully won't try to protect their territory."

Elle didn't know of the New Species Mercile considered failures and felt horrible for them. Knight had told her they were treated the worst and the doctors tested the strongest medicines on them since they were dispensable. She would do whatever Knight said so they wouldn't be offended by her.

"Of course Knight. I would never want them to feel judged on their own territory and I'll stick right by your side."

Knight carried Elle to the jeep once again and Elle laughed, "you know I can walk now with no pain."

"I know you can, but I like carrying you around. You fit perfectly in my arms."

All Elle could think was 'he really has a way with words'.

Once she was placed in the jeep, they were off to the Wild Zone. Some may think it's nerdy, but she couldn't wait to see how her mountain lion was recovering. She was so glad they didn't have to amputate the paw since the last time she saw it, it looked pretty infected.

"I hope she's adapting well to her new habitat and her paw isn't causing her any problems. Is there enough prey for her to hunt so she doesn't starve?"

Knight answered, "the Wild Zone residents love caring for wildlife species. It gives them a purpose in life and takes away their rage. There is the same wildlife in Reservation as there is in the Out World. Even if she couldn't find any prey, the Wild Zone residents would leave her food so she would never starve."

It was heavily wooded areas they were driving through now and she couldn't wait.

They got out of the jeep and walked through the woods to an area with a large stream. Knight assured her they weren't on anyone's territory but between Valient and Leo's territories. Valient had a human mate and Leo was not a threat. She felt a lot better at this knowledge and instantly spotted her mountain lion. She was chasing after a bunny.

Elle was amazed that she was able to run so quickly. "Animals are amazing. Only a couple of days after having surgery and she was ready go back out into the wild."
