CHAPTER THREE
"I know!" I frowned, pacing back and forth while the girls were still not down yet. I held my phone as I pleaded my best friend Annie for advice.
She exclaimed, "You are going overboard. How could you join the company of your client's to investigate?"
I shook my head as I held my head. "This is a difficult customer. He doesn't go for any social gatherings. The only place to extract information about him is to be in his workplace."
Annie let out a sigh, "Just how much this time you are offered for this deal?"
I smiled as I drew a breath, "Thirty...."
"THIRTY BUCKS" Annie wailed.
I shook my head, "No... It's thirty grand"
Annie paused for a moment before clearing her throat, "Who is the client? That's a big sum of money for matchmaking fees."
"Eric Donovan"
She gasped at the name. I knew this guy is famous, but I was quite surprised he was even known by my best friend, who is hard to get hit on. Her voice sounded overwhelmingly excited, "No way... You are saying Eric Donovan!?"
I raised my eyebrow, "Then I must be saying somebody's name"
Annie then suddenly proposed an absurd idea, "How about you match-make him and I, and we split the cash? Fifty-fifty."
Frowned at her idea, I was surprised. Annie had never been the kind that goes crazy over guys. And to think she doesn't even know him, she was all ready to jump in.
"Ann, the deal is that the girl has to marry him within three months."
"Easy" Annie replied without much hesitation.
I folded my arms, "How are you so sure that you will... like Eric and marry him in such a short time?" Then the girls walked out. I smiled at them and started following them for lunch.
"Just arrange the meeting for me and I will seal the deal." Annie didn't explain any further.
I thought for a moment before replying, "Fine. You can help me seal the deal and we'll split the fees."
I decided to settle it straight after lunch. So, when we got back, I headed to Eric's office. Without further hesitation, I knocked the door. Now this is tricky. If I were to pretend that I am interested in him, he wouldn't fall for it.
"Come in." Eric acknowledged me before he continued his work.
He looked amazing when he is focusing on his work. I had never seen a man that would take my breath away for even a split second. Shaking away the thoughts, I focused on the task at hand.
"Eric, can we have a talk when you are free?"
He looked up at me, "Sure. What's your concern? We can talk about it now."
I bit my lips, "It's not about work and I don't think it's nice of me to disturb you for my personal matter when you are working so-"I quickly stood up, trying to walk out of the room.
"No it's fine. Close the door and we can listen to your personal matter." He immediately stopped me from going out. He put down his pen and leaned back on his armchair. Okay, that was easy.
I nodded, "Thank you." Then I sat back and started, "It's kind of embarrassing to say this but..."
"There's this friends' gathering that they wanted me to go on this Saturday. But I really wanted to go for my event and... it would be kind of hard to leave halfway from the gathering."
