"What's wrong Arianna? Who was one the phone? Was it someone important?" Dad asked nervously.
"Nope, just some of my friends asking me to come to the park with them tomorrow," I replied, not wanting Dad to worry. Dad has enough to worry about, without this adding to his load.
"Ok then. Well we will be leaving I about 3 hours, so if you want to go up to your room and get ready, I have left a bullet proof vest and a gadget that I found in your mothers old draw."
"Ok," I say, before running up those same stairs that had brought terror to my life 6 years ago.
Lying on my bed was a bullet proof vest and a hair tie and an iPhone. How are these gadgets? I asked myself, picking the iPhone and hair tie up. Turning on the iPhone I saw my Mum's name at the top with an exclamation mark sign next to it, clicking it a message popped up.
To Ari, my beautiful daughter,
If you are reading this I must be dead. This gadget is a gadget that I had always dreamed of giving you, so I'm sorry that I couldn't give it to you in person. The hair tie allows you to mind read another persons mind. It can be anyone you want, but to allow this to happen you have to think of the person before whispering 'chocolate milkshakes'. This will allow you to access the persons mind. Everything that you find out in the persons mind will then store itself into the iPhone, so that you may be able to look at it again later if needed. Also if you push the on button on the iPhone 4 times in a row while thinking of a person, then you are also able to erase some of the persons memory, but you can't erase any long-term memories. Use this gadget well, but only in times of danger, as it is not a toy.
Love from,
Rose, Your amazing mother.
Wow, I thought. My Mum had used this gadget. I always knew she was special. She must have been a spy or something to have something as cool as this. I now felt a little nervous as I was holding something my Mum had held. I didn't know what to think or feel. I wanted to feel excited, but I also didn't want to let Mum down, as she had trusted me with this gadget! I quickly slipped the big, uncomfortable bullet proof vest on under my t-shirt and coat, so it wouldn't be seen, before putting my hair up using the mind reading hair tie, and slipping the iPhone into the pocket of my denim, blue jeans.
Quickly texting Lily on my way out to tell her that I was going on a dangerous mission, but that I would see her tomorrow. Reality seemed to hit me after that, as I couldn't help but think of the negative. What if I didn't see her tomorrow? What if I died tonight, or any of us died tonight? I couldn't bear the thought of any more people dying in my family.
"Arianna, are you ready to go yet?" Dad yelled from outside.
"Yeah I'm coming!" I yelled back, and shaking off anymore any more negative thoughts out of my mind, I ran out the door to Dad.
We walked in silence down the dark, gloomy streets that were only faintly lit by the beautiful, shining blue moon. Cheddervale can't afford street lights, so we rely on the moon to give us light to see where we are going, most of the time. Mum and I used to sit on the roof of our house and talk about the moon and the stars. We used to name them, thinking that they were people from heaven looking down on us. And now Mum is one of those stars and I know that she is watching Dad, Jake and I now.
