Chapter 12: goodbyes and badbyes

The next day, red and paps put everything in order and started working on the machine in the garage. It took them a day of nonstop working until they finally got it fixed and they had one last romantic moment (hint hint wink wink) bedore they said thier goodbyes.

"Red, why do you have to go?"

"I told you, if i stay here, my brother might find me and you and we'd both be dead where we stand."

*deep sigh "well, if you're in trouble, just use the machine, okay?"

"Of course. Although, i might use it anyway just to see you." He winked. Paps stuck out his tongue playfully, and red took that opportunity to get a last goodbye kiss. When they finished, red waved goodbye and said

"bye papy. I'm gonna miss ya. I love you."

" i love you too."

"See you next timeline."

"See you..."

But by then, red was gone as well as the machine.

Paps looked at where red had stood seconds ago. He numbly walked into the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of honey and sat on the couch in the living room. He didn't move, speak, or sleep until the day that his brother got back.

"Hey papy!"

"Hey. Whatcha..." He looked and saw his brother, half expecting red.

"Well, i just got home from my anime... Thing... Papy? You okay?"

"Huh? Yeah. Fine."

"You want some breakfast? I know a great recipe for waffles!"

"Whatever you say bro. "

For the next few days, that was the only response sans could get from papyrus. Aside from "move. Im watching tv." With the response of "but nothing is on!" And his response of "well i want to watch nothing, so move!" And a violent shove before going back to his vacant expression and staring at the empty screen.

"Papy, we need to talk."

"Whatever you say bro. "

"Look, you havent moved, eaten, slept, or done anything since i got here! What happened that made you be this way?"

"Whatever you say bro. "

Sans glared at his brother then remembered a letter he saw under his brother's pillow. He pulled it from his pocket and read the back of the closed envelope. It read

'for papy, paps, papyrus, and mostly, the most important monster to me. From red <3'

"Is it about this 'red' person?"

When papy heard red he looked at his brother in surprise.

"Where did you hear about him?"

"So that is it then? Tell me what's so special about them?"

"Ngh... I can't tell you. Now tell me where..." He saw the letter. "Give that to me." He said angrily.

"Not untill you tell me about this red person!"

"GIVE IT TO ME. NOW." Paps yelled and held out his hand. His eye was glowing.

"P-papy..." Sans started crying.

"S-sans... I don't know what came over me... I'm sorry."

Sans shook his head. He was crying. "P-papy... No... You're not my bother. My brother is better than someone as horrible as you." He threw the letter at papy, saying "keep it." Before running upstairs and slammi g his bedroom door.

Paps looked at the letter carefully before reading it. It read:

'Dear papy,

I'm sorry for leaving a note, but i had to tell you that... I may not be able to come back. If i do, my brother might just kill me... Or worse... Kill you. So when i get home, I'm destroying the machine and I'm finishing my life. I'm sorry papy... I'm really really sorry. I love you so much and I can't even explain how much worse you dying is than me.

But... I love you paps. I'll see you in another timeline.
Sencerily, Sans from Underfell,
AKA Red from Underswap. '

Paps couldn't stop crying. He muttered "sans, you idiot. Me never seeing you again is worse than me dying..."

After an hour he fell asleep holding the letter to his soul. Sans came downstairs auietly and watched his sleeping brother. "Papy?" He asked quietly. Paps was moaning and crying in his sleep. "R-red... Don't go... H-he's gonna kill you..." Sans looked a bit surprised, but not very. He and his brother had been having nightmares since they were kids. But the fact they were about red and not him concerned him. "What is he to you?" He muttered and saw his brothers soul. It wasn't just orange in it. It now had red color in it too... "Wait... You... Connected souls with someone? That explains a lot... Paps, wake up." He pushed paps off the couch.

"What the- sans!? Why'd you do that!?"

" to wake you up. We're gonna get red back!"

Paps stood up and hugged sans, muttering "thank you so much" histerically. He was crying so much he couldn't breathe.

"I'll be there soon red." He thought as they put the blueprint together.
