Beach. Sunset. One guy. One girl. Holding hands. Perfect.

Hold on. Zoom in. Not on the sand, not on the sun, not on the guys perfect hair, not on the girls cutest smile, but the hands. This is what I don't get.

I don't think the concept is weird. It's just that... it feels weirdly right. Here's a poem to explain.

Do you remember the first time
I held your hand?
In the dimness of the theater I loomed my fingers
in the spaces between yours
and felt your arm shaking.

I imagined that your nerves were
jumbled Christmas lights
that you have to sort and sift through
before they can illuminate
the room as they cling to the tree.

I imagined you clinging to me
in a parallel way,
and didn't find it suffocating.
Rather I found it soothing,
like feather-filled pillows or smooth champagne.

Finding homes in human beings
is something I've relentlessly advocated against,
but I couldn't deny that your palms
felt like solid ground and your lips opened like doors
to the only home I've ever known

And it felt weird just to hold on,
those cold, yet warm amazing things,
that maybe the concept of holding hands
was as foreign to me as to you as I felt your breathing pace
but it still strangely felt good.

You see I've never had the chance to hold hands with somebody. But I do have a lot of insight in the topic.

Movies, songs, novels all define it as a daunting yet heavenly task. They make it look like the person would drag you through hell just if you were holding hands.

I mean the other one can't even hold a spoon. Or better yet look at how tall he is, he has to crouch to fit in your height. Or did you see where he was scratching before you held his hand? Or do you even know where those hands have been? Or don't you realise how weird you look trying to fit in your little hand in his big palm?

Still. Whatever the complications, it's still weirdly nice. This is so 3 am.

So... Yup... Hands.... Ta da! 😅🤗🖐🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👋🏻👊🏻👎🏻👍🏻✊🏻✌🏻️👌🏻👐🏻✋🏻🙏🏻☝🏻👆🏻👇🏻👈🏻👉🏻🖕🏻🖐🏻🤘🏻✍🏻🖖🏻
