The Truth

next day

Grayson's pov

I woke up the next morning to my phone ringing.  It was Liana, she said she wanted to talk to me about something.  I didn't know what was wrong, but it didn't sound good.

She got to my house.  We sat down in my living room.  She looked at me, I could tell she was serious.

"Who is Gabi, really?

Oh great...

"Um.....okay..well"

"Grayson, it's okay, you can tell me..I'll understand"

"......okay...so Gabi, is my ex....we met in highschool.  She was the new girl and she became popular pretty quick.  At the time, I wasn't interested in her, and I had a girlfriend.  We just connected one day and I instantly became in love with her, and her with me.  We hung out for a while and we were happy.  One day my ex at the time became crazy and kidnapped her family.  She said she would let them live, but only if me and Gabi stayed apart, not to see each other again.  We had no choice, she didn't want her family to die, and I didn't want her to not have her family.  So we promised and after that......we never saw each other again.........but now we did, once again.  I thought I got over her.....but I guess not."

Liana looked down at her hands in disappointment.  I sat next to her and held her hands.  She hugged me and I held her tight.  I loved her, but I guess, it was just not meant to be.

"Look Liana, I never wanted to hurt you.  It's just that, I thought I would forget about her, but after seeing her that day in the restaurant, I guess I just wasn't ready to leave her yet.  I guess....we were not meant to be."

She looked up and put her hand on my cheek.  We looked at each other and she spoke.

"Grayson......I love you.  I always have.  It's just that, I also felt that there was something between us, I just couldn't grasp it.  I mean, we didn't fall in love with each other by accident.  We were put together, because we looked 'right' for each other.  I knew something was weird between you two, that night at the restaurant.  Then I realized, after you fought that man.  The way you held her in your arms.  I knew at that moment, that you loved this girl.  She was lucky to have you, but now I know she needs you.  I didn't want to believe it, but I care about you very much.  I want you to be happy.  I want to see you enjoying life with the 'real' love of your life.  I may not be able to make  that happen, so I want you to go after her..."

She started to tear up.  She wiped away my tears and I her's.

"....I guess we were jut not meant to be.  But just because we are not together, we will stop caring for each other.........I love you Grayson, and now I know why."

She started to cry and my tears became deeper.  I kissed her on her forehead, and she wrapped her arms around me.  She dug her head in my chest.  Her tears wet my shirt and I could feel her breath on me.  I dug my head in the crook of her neck and whispered in her ear.

"..and I'll always love you, Liana."

We sat there, hugging in each other's arms, and it felt like that hug went on forever...
