Chapter 1: shocking news

Katherine Ramses was many things; a criminal, a spy and a thief but never in her entire career had she been in charge of something major, well major on a larger scale than her criminal system intill now. Maybe because no one trusted her to lead or that they feared her skills but not Hawk, he took her under his wing after her 'team' of criminals failed to take down the Mexican embassy, three years ago. He treated her and her younger sisters; Estrella and Lyra, as equals and were kind to them, which is odd because almost everyone in north and south America hated they're guts except maybe the darker criminal side. The spy now after three years considered her commanding officer a good and loyal friend, that's dangerous because most of her friends die by her side, horribly and violently.

Katherine shook her head, trying to rid herself of the dark memories creeping up to the surface of her mind. The specter vanished with reluctance, she didn't need them to remind her of the horrors of her past. A past she will spend every day of the rest of her life trying to make up for. People are capable of doing terrible things for their loved ones, Katherine reflected. That's why she joined the G.I.Joes, to make up for past mistakes and grievances. She pushed down the memories of the former horrors of her previous life and turned her attention to her current predicament with General Abernathy, gosh, he has a of sense of humor sometimes- most of the times.

"Pardon? Hawk? Are you joking with me again? 'Cuz, I think you are." Katherine tried to make sense of what he just proposed to her but it was to insane to make sense of. She ran a hand through her long raven hair, clearly stressed before returning to the Attention position. Three years of not being in the Pit has dulled her memory of proper military 'manners' not that she had any proper manners to start with. She just puts up the masquerade of being a well-mannered, well-rouned lady, a well-mannered lady was awfully boring and dull but apparently acceptable in today's society. Today's society was unpalatable and held no excitement for her, it bored her.

"You heard me, Ramses, you're now head of CovertOPs. I know you can run it because you keep those crazy nuthead twins of yours in line." his ice blue eyes twinkled at the sight of the flabbergasted spy before him but she quickly recovered and scowled at him. He met her Death glare evenly and returned the look, tenfold. She didn't back down, she wasn't that kind of woman.

Katherine wasn't going to let this one slide by easily, she grunted." What about my missions? We need to take Carlos out, don't you remember?." she glared at the older man sitting calmly behind a desk, who was still looking quite smug.

Hawk's POV

"We sent a team to take him out." He replied smoothly, looking back to the large stack of paper work awaiting him with a sly smile. This was the most entertaining thing he's done in weeks, he didn't put Katherine in the commanding position of Director of Covert Operations just for entertainment reasons alone, she was the best suited person for the job. All her years of leading her family of criminals payed off for her in the long shot. He knew that she could be potently unstable, who wouldn't after all the hell she's been through, her and her sisters, Despite that massive factor, he chose to trust her and her godfather, Joe, that vouched for his, goddaughter, Katherine Ramses.

Abernathy took a hefty gamble on the woman and now it's just beginning to pay off in the long run. He could still remember the first day he met her, at the Mexican embassy, stealing information because she could. Who would stop her, who could? The Joes did that day out of blind stupid luck, Abernathy didn't like luck. They won simply because Bastet was in a good mood that day and chose to listen to his words of reason. A true hail Mary. When he's team swept through battling her family down to the ground, she still fought them without relenting and giving in. Hawk saw the power she possesses first hand, he saw the amount of raw power she put in her wicked blows and the dark fury in those predatory eyes. He saw that the rumors about Bastet were true, her ruthlessness in combat and the total brutality she used against her enemies but those deadly attributes did not run wild and free. Behind the trained killing machine, a intelligent mind piloted the body, Bastet knew exactly how to take someone down fastest and not blindly rushing into the heat of battle like the dangerous predator she was most associated with. Abernathy reflected that Katherine was a honed blade, deadly in the evil hands of her previous employer, Bastet was a weapon ready to be used against their enemy. By herself she was a force to be reckoned with but no true purpose in her life.
