-chapter 2-

*dream*

Katherine breathed in the bittersweet smell of spices, it was heart aching familiar. It brought her back to when she was a teenager, when she worked for Richy Rich, one of the largest crime bosses back in Texas. He was dead, now.
Katherine took up the name of Bastet, and became the Champion of Richy Rich's mob to protect and provide for her sisters. Katherine had done some terrible things as Bastet, what she did would forever stain her consciousness and moral.
She wasn't to proud of her childhood she'd rather forget about it all together but her heart would grant that small mercy. It haunted Katherine's every step of everyday, it mocked her every move. A spector looming over Katherine, ready to strike when she stumbled back into darkness. Every time she closed her eyes she found herself on some random street in downtown Houston and for an instance now, she was dreaming of her past life in the apartment. A life she so desperately wanted back to normal, without Richy just her familia at peace.

"Grandmama?"despite the major fact that this was just a dream, Katherine decided to play along for slags and giggles.

The spy dumped her brown leather messenger bag on the wooden entry table, that appeared out of nowhere on her shoulder and ventured deeper into to the cozy apartment. Wary of an ambush, oh yes, random enemies popped up in her little dreams like jack-in-a-boxes. They were quiet annoying nuisance.

"Grandmama? What? Kitty, are you tired?"

Katherine Ramses, the infamous criminal of south and North America froze in shock and fear, a feeling of dread rushed through the woman. It was the fear of facing someone who's died four years ago. Her subconscious could be an witch.

"Andy? Is that you?" Katherine suddenly felt dizzy, bracing herself against the wall she slowly made her way to the large kitchen, where Katherine's grandmother cooked for the family's bakery. You could normally smell like baking bread and sugar but not now.

Andy was her fiancé. Was is the key word in that sentence. Before Andy died, he was in the Marine Corps. He was forest recon and he went MIA. She loved him with all of her heart and soul, she still hasn't fully recovered from losing him. She'll most likely never will.

Katherine's heart felt like it was stabbed and then thrown in a blender at the scene before her. She stumbled to the wall, gasping. Her yellow golden eyes widened the size of dinner plates. There at the small breakfast table sat Andy and a girl about eight years old, black silky hair that matched katherine's and the same beautiful yellow gold eyes that its depth never seemed to end. Katherine Ramses knew on instinct that the young girl was her daughter, the only difference of the two was that her daughter was as pale as freshly fallen snow like her father and herself was a sun kissed tan skin like one of those Mexican dancers she sees on her T.V.

Sadly, she lost her child before it was born. The spy shook her head, disbelieving. Why was her mind playing such cruel tricks on her shattered soul? A sob managed to escape her throat, she struggled to contain herself. She could do this, Katherine told herself, you faced worse.

Her eyes watered, she swallowed her own tears and said,"Hey Honey."

"Mommy! Looky at whut I drew for you!" her daughter squealed in delight when Katherine to her in her arms and spun her. When she was set down she waved a piece of purple construction paper in katherine's face.

Gingerly, the woman took the paper out of the eight year olds hand as if it would disintegrate at any moment. The picture had three stick figures in front of a colorful house, a home. All were labeled mommy, daddy and Tatiana. Such a beautiful name, Tatiana. She and Andy chose a good name. Sobs racked Katherine's body. She couldn't stop, she opened the flood gates. Tears fell like waterfalls.

Tatiana and Andy disappeared in a wisp of a grey smoke as well as the rest of the apartment."NO!" Katherine screamed in despair and loss.

-end of dream-

Katherine jolted up right in her bed in the quarters that Hawk assigned her, she screamed her frustration out to the unresponsive walls. Cold sweat beaded down her forehead, more sobs shook her to her very core. Her heart hammered in her chest and her hands clenched the sheets around Katherine. She started to cry. Why?
