Saturday 22nd September. The funeral.

We all got up and got washed, dressed and smart. Our outfits were in the wardrobe in their plastic still. The funeral started at 12pm so we were out the door by 11am. The drive seemed long but the cemetery was just round the corner. Leo had been shaking all morning and crying in short bursts. He is so cute. I had to keep adjusting his tie as he never wears them. It was a black tie, white shirt and black suit with leather shoes. I was wearing a long black dress which seemed to be draped everywhere. My shoes were black sandals. My mum was driving and we had also given Leo's sister a lift too. Tilly was wearing a short black and red dress that her mum bought her a few months back. Tilly was in the front with my mum,and me and Leo were In the back. We arrived at the cemetery after 10 minutes in the car. Everyone was gathered outside all in black. It was like a black cloud of smoke in one spot. We were invited in by a vicar who showed us our seats. We were by the middle as the vicar asked Leo to say something about his mum. Pictures of Leo's mum were at the front and so were some candles.

Halfway through Leo got up and started to walk to the front. He started to unfold a piece of paper. He looked around the room and gave a smile to everyone . He then started to speak " afternoon everyone, I would just like to say a few words in honour of my mum.  She was someone who I would have always put first, no matter the situation we were in. When I was in school and was bullied about my dad not being there, she would always make sure I would feel safe going to school. She supported me through my important journey and would always make sure I had what I needed. We always had food in our cupboards and clean clothes to wear daily." He flipped the paper over and smiled at everyone again. His mouth started to quiver "and for that I am eternally grateful, (long pause) I love you mum" as he said these last four words a tear raced down his cheek. He walked back slowly and sat next to me again. This time he sat so close to me I could feel his heart beating against my arm. For some reason it was relaxing. As long as it was beating i was happy.
