So far it had gone well all day. Trevor and his friends had been silent about the fire all day, nor anyone else from the class, partially because our teachers kept the class as silent as possible to maintain a good working space. Finally the fifth hour arrived as well, where we wouldn't be in the same classroom. If then suddenly someone from the police or anything were to appear, and would talk about it, and Trevor would suspect anything, I would be as good as dead.
I quickly went to class, where I dumped my bag down next to my table and settled myself down on my claimed chair. I made sure to be sitting close to the window. From here I had a perfect view over de entrance of the school, so if anyone from the police were to come, I would be able to see that immediatly. But in the end this hour to went by just fine, and later finally the end of the day came without something having happened.
Gladly I grabbed my bag after the last bell rang, after which I went to the lockers. After having grabbed my jacket I left the domain. In the hallway I saw Trevor. His group however was nowhere to be seen, so he was just all by himself. With my face pointed to the ground, but my eyes on him, I walked past him, when I noticed he was looking at me as well from the corner of his eye. Calmly I left the building though and made my way to the bicycle storage. Once there I noticed my tire was flat.
"Great.." I mumbled to myself. I searched for any holes, but couldn't see any, until I saw that the kap of the valve had been taken off. Someone had let my tire go flat on purpose. So mature.. I thought to myself. I sighed, and then decided to walk back into the school building to ask the concierge if they had any extra caps for me. Trevor was still standing at the same spot as before, but I decided to ignore him.
"Hello?" I said to get the attention of the concierge. He was in their own room, busy doing something on the computer.
"Hmm? Can I do something for you?" he answered.
"Do you maybe have an extra valve cap laying around for my tire? Someone took mine." I asked him.
"Ah, someone has been quite childish then huh? Give me one moment, I'll see if we have any of those extra here." he said, after which he stood up and looked around in some cabinets. Meanwhile I waited, a little impatient, while the schoolbuilding emptied quickly. Everyone was free by now and gone home. Except Trevor. I looked at him a bit from the corner of my eye, and I was he still stood on the same spot. Was he waiting for me? Did he know something?
"Ah, there we go." the concierge said while I reached out a cap towards me. "I hope this one fits, else you'll have to come back for a different one. And this could also come in handy." he added, after which he reached out a pomp as well to inflate the tire.
"Thank you." I said, after which I took the cap and the pomp and walked to the exit with it. Trevor too started to move, now that the school was empty qua students. I sped up my walking speed, but Trevor had already seen my plan and grabbed me by my shoulder. Not that hard, just to stop me from going away.
"Wait for a second.. I need to ask you something.." Trevor said. I stopped walking, scared for what might happen.
"What do you want from me.." I snatched back at him. He let go of my shoulder, so I could turn around to look at him.
"Quinten.. where is he? Why wasn't he at school today?" he asked me. Damnit, I knew this were to come.
"I dunno.. I just gotta go now" I answered back to him, after which I tried to walk away, but once again Trevor stopped me.
"The fire in the woods was on the exact same spot as where you two were last. What has happened there?" He looked really worried.
"I don't know what happened.." I tried again, but it seemed to still not be enough. He looked at me with a look full of anger, but also still a lot of worries.
"Did he accidentally put himself on fire?.." he asked. I nodded softly. Yeah, it had to have been an accident. It really was. A deserved one. His face stood sadly. "Did you at least try to safe him?" he asked me then. What did he expect? That I really would try to safe a bully in such a situation?
"I was too busy getting away from that fire myself. That assh.." I quickly stopped my sentence. Trevor looked really mad.
"He may have been annoying, he still was my friend. Do not insult him in front of me. I could also just tell the cops that you were the last one to be around him at that fire."
"Pff, they haven't even found him yet." I answered. It had to be so at least, seen else they surely would've come here already to ask some questions.
"Not yet indeed.. But as soon as they find him.." After receiving one last warning glance he walked away through the door, away from school. I stood still for a short while longer, surprised I got rid of it that easily for now. But I was also really worried. Fuck.. fuck! I thought to myself. He knew now, he knew that Quinten had died. And now he had a way to get me for it. I knew I had nothing to do with it, that it had been Quinten his own fault, but how easily will the cops believe that? Especially after whatever Trevor will say to them?
Quickly I went outside as well, back to the bike, where I placed the cap on the valve of the tire - yes, it did fit! -, quickly inflated the tire with the pomp and raced back home.
