I fly through the building not positive I am going in the right direction but eventually, I do reach him. He is sitting up tangled in a mess of dirty sheets. He looks incredibly confused. His eyebrows are scrunched up. His beautiful freckled face is sickly pale but it's alive. He still doesn't look so well but I couldn't be happier. I hate to admit it but I honestly didn't think he was going to survive.
I dive onto him and bury him in a hug. He winces but hugs me back.
"What happened? I woke up and you were gone. I wasn't sure if- I thought you were-" he bursts into tears.
"No, it's okay. I'm okay. We are going to get through all of this." I almost cry myself but manage to keep it together. I have to stay strong for him.
"All of what? What happened? Who are these people?" His questions come rapid fire. I hardly care about answering them I squeeze him even tighter and kiss his face until he pushes me off, "Thief what's going on."
"I found a Time Lord and he helped us," I say carefully not to reveal his identity. I have no idea what Runner will do when he finds out he is face to face with his hero. The same hero who destroyed our home. Instead, I simply gesture to the doctor who smiles and gives a small wave. I point to The girl, "That's Clara, she's human and his friend."
He grins, "Thanks... can you take us home now?"
The Doctor opens his mouth to speak but I cut him off. This should come from me, "Runner. Galifrey's... gone. Along with the Daleks and all the Time lords except for us."
"What so you mean gone?" He looks at us in absolute horror. "How can it be gone? What-"
"We were going to lose." The Doctor says in a calm voice. "There was nothing left for them but suffering... I had to end it. I had to keep the Daleks from doing that to other worlds."
Tears stream down his face, "You did it?"
The doctor nods and so does Runner.
"I think I understand." Runner pushed himself off the ground, "You're a soldier then?"
"Well-" the Doctor starts but seems to change his mind, "Yes, yes I was but that was a long time ago."
"Thank you for your service. Thank you for making a decision that was impossible to make," See, this exactly what I mean. This is why people love him. He understands every situation. He forgives the Doctor without a second thought when I can't get past it. I can't even look at him without thinking of what he did. Runner smiles softly, "What do they call you?"
The Doctor grins and sticks out his hand, "I'm the Doctor. Hello."
Runner stands in awe. The awe turns into a huge grin. His calm adult-like composure vanishes and is replaced with the twelve years old he actually is. He grabs his hand and shakes it a little too rigorously, "No way!"
"Yes, way!" I imagine he is relieved to find that Runner doesn't hate him too.
"You are amazing! Everything you do. Really. I really think so. You're a legend." He speaks so fast I can hardly understand him. Something tells me the Doctor hears every word, "I really admire how you ignore every single one of my dad's rules. Not many people have the courage to do that. I'm not sure if you can tell but I am really excited to meet you."
"He can tell," I mumble under my breath. I knew this would happen eventually but it is still beyond painful, "actually he was just leaving."
I hate the look of disappointment on his face but it is best of he goes. Runner and I will be fine on our own.
"Actually," The Doctor starts again, "I was thinking you might travel with me and Clara. You know to travel the universe. Seeing the sights and enjoying the ride. Plus the occasional running for your life."
I hear Clare mumble something about having to that more than the occasional time.
"Well, what do you guys think? I would love to have you."
I say, "No." at the exact same time Runner says, "Yeah!"
I glare at him, "Runner we can't go with him."
"And why not?" He turns back to the Doctor before I get a chance to answer, "I'm dying to see the TARDIS."
"I think that you might want to talk to your sis-"
"Do you think you could teach me how to fly it? I only had a few lessons before the war and even then it wasn't in a type 40. Most people think that those are nothing but old junk but you can't beat the classics. That is your TARDIS right?"
"Yes..." I can tell the Doctor wants nothing more than to discuss various time machines with Runner but stops himself. "but-"
"Sweet!" He runs to the TARDIS throws the doors open and rushes inside. I can hear every one of his joyous exclamations. The Doctor glances at me and then follows him in there. Now I hear him explaining what each thing does. I can feel his excitement growing. The both seem to have forgotten all about me. I stand outside the TARDIS glumly.
Clara gives me a sympathetic look, "Sorry he can be a but oblivious at times."
"Yeah, I noticed" I sigh. We both follow them in.
Runner rushes up to me, "Can you believe I get to fly this thing? And that I get to travel with the Doctor!"
"Runner we aren't going." I hate to rain on his parade but he had to know before he got too carried away.
"What you mean we aren't going? Of course, we're going!"
"We can't."
"Why not?"
"First of all, this man is supposed to be our enemy. Second, he is bad news, a troublemaker. You could get hurt. And third and probably the most important he destroyed our home."
"He didn't have a choice." He says crossing his arms.
"He still did it. Come let's go. We don't want to hold him up any longer. I'm sure he has plenty of pointless and dangerous things to do today."
"I'm going and you can't stop me!"
The Doctor shrugs, "He's right you really can't."
I stare at both of them and only then do I realize what's happening. I'm losing my brother. The Doctor is stealing him away! I feel tears stinging in my eyes and say to the Doctor, "Wonderful job, now you've taken everything I care about."
I storm out of the TARDIS. I hear him call out after me, "Thief! Thief wait, please."
