I couldn't quite comprehend how he could be so sweet 24 hours ago and suddenly become a Monster in front of his friends. I knew drugs were a prime problem but it still wasn't an excuse. I remained quiet for a while basking in my own thoughts. I was disturbed by the blaring melody of 'Heartbreaker' by Justin Bieber coming from my bag. Pulling out my phone, the caller ID caught my eye. It was my mother. I looked to Emilie who had already seen who was calling over my shoulder “Answer it” she encouraged me. Gulping I slid the answer button and placed the phone to my ear “H-Hello” I stuttered. “Oh Rebekah thank God you're safe! Your Dad and I were so worried, he said you just ran off and when he went looking he couldn't find you. I thought you'd been kidnapped” she said leaving herself out of breath. I felt the breath hitch in my throat at the thought of my Father's lies to my Mother. It disgusted me and left me with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. “Sweetie are you there” my Mom's voice knocked me out of my thoughts and back into reality. “Yeah I'm still here” I said softly. “So where are you? Do you need me to pick you up? I have to go to work but your Father can have dinner ready for you” Her words quickly registered in my mind forming my response “I'm not coming home”. The line went silent as if my response was beyond unexpected. When she finally spoke she wasn't impressed“What do you mean you're not coming home?” her voice was quizzical. “I'll be home but only to get my things but I'm not staying” my response was plain and lacked emotion which was exactly how I was feeling about the situation. “We'll talk about this later” her voice filled with infuriation. “There's nothing to talk about, Goodbye Mom” I said before hanging up feeling a wave of adrenaline pass over my body. “Lets Go, We need to look smokin' for this party” I said throwing a smirk in Emilie's direction. “But first we need to stop at my house” I said letting my face change to serious as Emilie took my hand and squeezed it in encouragement.
We gathered our bags and made our way back to Emilie's car, avoiding the spot we assumed Austin would be. Placing our bags in the back seat we began what seemed to be a never ending car journey. Emilie promised she would come in with me and not have me face this alone, therefore my father wouldn't hurt me, he wouldn't risk anyone seeing him and ruining his status and reputation in the town. Before I could prepare myself for what was ahead, I was snapped out of my thoughts from the sound of Emilie's tires rolling along the familiar sound of the gravel of my driveway. As we inched closer to the door of the house I felt my palms become sweatier and my heart beat so loud I'm surprised Emilie had not pointed out the drum like beats of it. Emilie's car pulled up as close to my front door as she possibly could, parking the car and getting out. I slowly unbuckled my seat belt and mustered up all the power I had to remove myself from the car. I felt myself begin to shake in fear. Emilie grabbed my hand and squeezed it in a comforting manner as she almost dragged me to the front door. She opened it slowly trying not to make any sound so we could avoid confrontation. Closing it quietly we creeped up the stairs. Once in the safety of my bedroom I pulled out every single bag I had from my closet and began to stuff clothes, make up, shower items, and memoirs into them. Once we had hurriedly packed everything Emilie climbed from my window outside to her car and I began to toss bag by bag down to her.
About half way through the process I heard heavy footsteps on the stairs and it almost felt like deja vu. I ran to my desk and taking my chair I propped it against the door in hope it would somehow block my Father if he did try and enter my room. I ran back to my window tossing bags down to Emilie as fast and as carefully as possible, until while leaning over the window sill I knock one of the unwanted plastic ornaments to the ground causing a loud bang as it hit off the wooden floor “Shit” I mumbled to myself throwing the last bag down to Emilie before climbing out the window myself. Just as I hit the ground I heard my Father shout out my window “Get back here you- Young Lady” the sight of Emilie made him change his tone and language. “deja vu or what” I chuckled to myself before directing my gaze at him “Make me” I said back with attitude glistening in my voice, causing him to fume with anger as I made my way to the passenger seat. I felt myself flare with a new found confidence, I had never spoken to anyone like that before and It felt so good to finally be able to let it all out and not bottle anything up. Emilie started the car and began to drive towards her house. I began to laugh, for the first time in a while I was actually really laughing and it felt so good. Emilie flashed me a weird look before joining in, in my laughter.
Once we arrived at her house I had tears streaming from my eyes from laughing so hard. Wiping them away I entered the house with Emilie and we made our way to the kitchen where Emilie's Mom sat drinking a cup of coffee “Hey Girls” she said flashing us a warm smile. “Bekah Emily text me about what happened and I have talked with Paul and since you're already like a second daughter to us we would love if you lived in with us” I felt my face light up “Thank You so much Pat” I grinned running to her and hugging her Emilie soon joining in as we shrieked in delight. “I'll get a job and pay rent” I said removing myself from the hug “Oh sweetie you don't have too” Pat reassured me “But I want to” I said smiling and she nodded to me in approval. Emilie looked to me “Lets get ready” she giggled running to me, grabbing my arm and pulling me upstairs to her room, to prepare for a night of laughter, partying, fear and dark shadows.
