Chapter 2- The next day and a Detention

The next morning

The next morning I woke up in a happy mood and I don’t know why. I had a shower and brushed my teeth. I grabbed my phone and I had a text from Kiera asking if I could pick her up because her car won’t start. I text back that I would be over soon. As I walked out of my room I grabbed my car keys, locked my front door and got into my car. I pulled up to Kiera’s house and she got in. “OMG, you’re a fucking lifesaver” she said. I just laughed and said “I know”. She laughed as well. When we got into school I asked what lesson she had and she said “I have music with YOU, you twat” “sorry I forgot, ya know New Year and other new things” I said the last part a bit quieter. She looked at me smirking and said “new as in a new English teacher” “shut up” “you like the new English teacher, you like Mr Downey” “ye I like him he seems like a nice person”. She give a ‘what the fuck’ look and said “I didn’t mean you liked him cause he is a nice person, I mean you like like him”. I hit her arm playfully “no I don’t “yes you do” “ok maybe I do” she cut me off “I knew it” “I wasn’t finished, now as I was saying maybe I do, maybe I don’t”. We laughed and made our way to music. “Hi tom” Kiera said. She soooo likes him and I know he likes her because he told me, but no-one would make the first move. “Hey Kiera, hi Marianne” “hi tom”. We sat down and talked while we did some of our work, luckily we didn’t have to do much. Then we had a 10 minute break. After our break we went to our next class and it just had to be English. Great I thought. We walked into English and sat down; Mr Downey came in just as I sat down. “Now can you all get in to groups for me please while I log on to the computer” he asked. I went into a group with Becky, Kiera and Rachel. After he logged on the computer he got some books out of the cupboard and asked me to help hand them out. He gave me the books and hands touch. I tingled and I guess he felt it too because he moved his hand away quickly and gave me a smile and walked quickly to the other side of the classroom to hand the books out, I do the same and sat back down. Not long after that I my phone went off; I had a text from Scott. He has been annoying me for the last month and a half, he won’t leave me alone. I guess Mr Downey here’d it as well because he was walking over to where our group was. I was about to tell Scott to fuck off when Mr Downey said “Marianne there are to be no phones in my class, hand it over, you can have it back at the end of the day when you see me for detention” the class just looked at me and smirked. I looked back at Mr Downey and said “fine” I was about to turn around when he smiled and winked at me. I looked away and blushed. After class we had lunch, I sat down at the table and Kiera said “looks like you won’t be driving me home then” I face-palmed myself “sorry” “no problem, I asked tom if he could drive me home” I smiled and winked at her, “is he just taking you home or are you hanging out after school” “we are hanging out after school”. I just smiled at her. At the end of my last lesson I bumped in to my old friend who I haven’t seen in a year “Brian” “Marianne, how have you been” “good thanks how have you been” “good, where are you going” “detention” “I can walk you there if you want” “ok sure”. As we were walking through the corridors he slowly held my hand. I looked up at him and smiled. “so why are in detention and on the second day back” “my teacher here’d my phone go off and then took it off me” “oh ok, I won’t ask my next question then” “why what was your question” “I was going to ask you for your number but I can’t now cause you don’t have your phone” “just because I don’t have my phone doesn’t mean that I can’t give you my number” I said laughing. “Ok them can I have your number so I can text you later” “ok pass me your phone”. He gave me his phone and I put my number in it. “Right then shall we get you to your detention” “ok, detention here I come” then we burst out laughing

Mr Downey was standing in the doorway of his classroom waiting for me. When he saw me, me and brain were laughing because he was making silly jokes. Mr Downey looked at me and Brian and then to our hands. His jaw suddenly clenched when he saw my hand in Brian’s. He then signalled for me to come in. “see you later Marianne” “see you later Brian I will text you later” after I said that he gave me a kiss on the cheek. I guess Mr Downey saw that because he walked in the classroom and slamming his fist on desk. I said good bye to Brian and walked into Mr Downey’s classroom.
