It was very late in the night when Twinkle finally returned home. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as the memories of the evening post Peter's proposal came flooding back.
No sooner than she had stopped recording Solomon sounded humble as he had said "You did great just now. I don't know how I can thank you enough. Peter is like my family."
I didn't turn to look at his face. His voice had some effect on my nerves. I wanted to ignore the pull I felt towards him.
I should think about his negative traits. Top one being that It's because of him that I might even have to close the very company I live for. I don't want him to sound so earnest when he is actually a devil in disguise. Yes, this is working! I can feel my anger for him coming back.
I would have slashed out at him if it wasn't for Sharona. She came rushing towards me. Peter must have told her that it was my idea.
"Thank you so much! We don't even know each other. In fact we were not even introduced and yet you gave up your sandals to make this evening so memorable for me. You are a sweetheart! Isn't she Solomon?" she gushed.
"Sweetheart, yeah I guess we can call her that," he said in his teasing voice and I felt the goose bumps making their way back on my skin.
"I am very happy for you both. Hope you have a great life," I ignore him and tell Sharona earnestly, eagerly wanting to excuse myself and make a run to my home. Thank God! I have my car. I can't bear to converse any more with Stanley tonight.
"We can't let you go like that. Solomon be a darling and slip my sandals on her. She can't leave barefoot after making me leave like Cinderella just moments ago," Sharona requested Solomon much to my shock.
"That won't be necessary. I can manage," I started to say but something in Sharona's puppy green eyes made me resolve and I shrugged my shoulders indicating I no longer wanted to argue with her. She was just so sweet and nice. I can wear her sandals just for tonight and return them soon. But I don't want Solomon touching me anymore.
"Okay! Fine I will wear your sandals. Give me your number and we can discuss later as to how I can return yours. I really think you should keep mine though," she winked at her. They ought to be much more special to Sharona now.
She giggles and nods, "Yes I will and would make sure you get the same pair soon. Here give me your phone and I will feed my number while you slip into my sandals."
After a few more minutes of little chitchat we hugged and bid goodbyes. Solomon nodded curtly in my direction to which I had responded with a stare.
I looked out of habit for Stanley but he was nowhere in sight.
Twinkle frowned as she opened her eyes and the reality came crashing down once again. The sooth calm interiors of her home failed to have the desired effect on her tonight. She began to think how in two weeks time she would be able to pay both her bills and renew the lease of her office.
She looks blankly outside the window as the most depressing thought materialises.
I might have to sell off my home.
A small bark followed by tiny steps hitting on the floor make her smile. She happily greets her tiny fur ball.
"Rudolph. You are still awake? Come here you," she let the happy dog lick her face making her laugh despite her sticky situation.
He barks a little as he rolls over asking her tickle his tummy. She smiles and tickles him
"Yes Rudolph, you are so right...why waste a moment on sad thoughts when tomorrow is a new day. I will work it out. Yes, I will."
