I broke the kiss. I looked around to make sure no one saw and thankful the doctor left. I bit my lip and went to my father’s office. I grabbed our beta and told him to get both Red and Greg, the alpha of the other pack. I sat, looking down when they both walked in.

“You are both under investigation for attacking my father, so you are not allowed to leave this land. If you tell me now that it was you, we won’t declare war. I will figure out who attacked my father and you will not like the consequences.” I stated calmly

“You can’t hold us here, little girl.” Greg growled at me.

I stood up snarling. “Yes I can! I am the LUNA of this pack and since my father is injured, I AM THE ALPHA! I dare you to try and leave!”

Greg charged at me but Death came out from the corner and threw him across the room. I looked at him, surprised he would defend me. “Now, Alpha Greg, go to your room for tonight and hopefully this investigation won’t take long.”

He snarled and stormed out, leaving Red there to stare at me. “Do you honestly think it was me? We were together when it happened!”

“That doesn’t mean you couldn’t have ordered someone else to do it!” Death snapped.

“WHO ARE YOU?” Red roared at the challenge in Deaths voice.

“STOP IT NOW!” I yelled distracting them. “Red, what was the call you had? I can’t trust anyone! All I know, is a pack wants to attack mine and I have to stop it and I am doing a horrible job of it, cause my father was hurt!”

“Well once the investigation is done” He sneered. “You have full support of my pack if someone tries to attack! I won’t let you be hurt.” He stormed out, leaving me confused.

“I don’t understand. Death, if you are my mate, why do I feel that way about him?” I sat upset.

“Cause he is your second chance mate. You are supposed to feel that way. You are supposed to be with him.  You were never going to meet me, but I changed everything.” He turned his back to me.

“I don’t understand.” I looked at him confused.

“I died. I died before we had a chance to meet and fall in love. I died before we could have a life together. Our goddess, bless her soul, decided I needed to die. I needed to die to become the collectors of souls for her. So I didn’t get a chance at life. I didn’t get a chance at love.”  He snarled upset.

“When she told me I was supposed to collect those souls that day, I didn’t know you would be there. I saw you and you were so upset running in the woods. You weren’t going to die. Red was in the woods, he was going to save you. I sent him the other way. I had to save you to talk to you.” He cursed. “I didn’t know you were old enough to know I was your mate. I didn’t know that you would even recognize me as yours because I am dead.”

“Thank you.” I whispered. “Thank you for allowing me to come save my family.”

“You know we can never be together. It is against what the goddess has told me and I am in enough trouble as it is.” He whispered painfully.

“I know. But I don’t know if I can be with Red. He still might be the one behind everything.” I sighed hurting for both of us.

“If he isn’t, give him a chance. Be happy.” He kissed my forehead and vanished.

I closed my eyes trying to figure everything out.
