when she woke up, she could hear the machine beeping beside her. her eyes weren't open but it wasn't necessary for her to know where she was.

"ms. lee, can you hear me? if you can, try to open your eyes." she heard a man talk beside her bed. she fluttered her eyes open and saw three strangers by her side. well, they weren't exactly strangers, but she's seen so many employees of the hospital that she wasn't sure if she's seen them before.

The first stranger was a man, which she supposed was the doctor, was a young man in his mid-thirties with perfectly styled black hair, and sharp features. his eyes were as dark and oddly menacing. suri read his name tag: dr. hong jonghyun. the woman at his right had a tablet against her chest as her arms were tightly holding it. She had chestnut brown hair in a tight low bun and light makeup on. The other woman was a little bit further in the back. like the other nurse, shr had a bun just above the back of her neck. but her hair was deep red.

suri saw the multiple pills the nurse had on a tray and wasn't shy to hide her disgust. a chuckle escaped the man's lips, making the girl look at him. "ms. lee, do you know why you are here?" she looked away, not wanting to answer the question she had answered so many time.

"your friend and brother seemed really worried." friend. she almost scoffed. she didn't have friends, and was totally fine with it. no friends meant no microb, no bacteria, no disease. "mingyu apologizes for... you know, sneezing on you. he also apologizes for not being here when you wake up." the man saw how the girl didn't seem to care, and forced a smile.

suri was known by most nurses and doctors at the hospital because she happened to be a patient pretty often. she was also known to be stubborn, selfish and arrogant. despite being a little brat, according to most people she's met before, she was more mature and responsable than most teenagers her age.

"i'm- oh, you're awake." a familiar tall boy in uniform appeared at the door, plastic bags in his hands. suri could smell the oil coming out from whatever food mingyu brought. "i brought jajjangmyun." he saw how suri, dr. hong and the nurses were staring at him, and nervously smiled. "i didn't know what you'd like and seojoon left saying he had to go back to work."

"suri doesn't eat greasy food and is allergic to shrimp." the doctor didn't hesitate to talk as he handed the girl the pills she had to take. she found them hard to swallow, even with the tall glass of water she drank in few seconds.

a heavy silence was present in the room and the only thing that came up in mingyu's mind was to break it. but just then, suri bluntly turned on her bed, mouth half-opened, as if she was also about to say something.

mingyu gestured her to talk. "you don't have to stay." he felt a pang in his heart. mingyu have heard of the girl before. she didn't exactly look like he thought she'd look like. people described her as blonde, tall and thin. suri had medium length dark hair that reached right under her shoulders. she had quite short legs — which mingyu thought was cute — and wasn't exactly skinny in a healthy way. her skin was sticking to her bones. dark eyebags were visible under her dark irises. her hair color, even though it wasn't that dark, contrasted with her sickly white skin. he also heard that she had this despicable attitude. indeed, she did... but it wasn't that bad.

"but i want to."

swollensoul: i've never written a chapter that long before... it wasn't so bad. well, i think. comment how you found it.
