Billie Joe turns on the radio in his car, and "B.Y.O.B" by System of a Down begins to play, which is one of my favorite songs. I hum along to the song, and Billie sings to it. "...Handed to obsoletion yet you feed us lies from the table cloth!" Billie and I sing at the top of our lungs. We continue to sing along until the last word. "I love that song," we say in unison. We both laugh, and Billie drives the car into a parking lot outside of an Italian restaurant. "Whoa. This looks expensive," I say underneath my breath. "Don't worry about it. Like I said, I'll pay for you. And don't bother trying to say no," Billie winks at me. I roll my eyes as he parks the car, and we both get out.
We walk side by side, and to the hostess' podium. "How many?" the girl asks. "Two," Billie answers, quickly glancing over at me with a smile. She guides us over to a table, with a booth, and Billie sits in the center of it. I sit to the side of him and the hostess gives us menus. After she walks away, I look at the menu and look at all of the prices. Billie notices and nudges me lightly on the arm. "Don't worry about it. I promise you, I'm gonna sound like a dick, but I have a lot of money to spare," he says.
"I'd just feel bad for making you spend that much on me."
"You're worth it."
I blush slightly and try to hide the smile forming on my face. Billie smiles as well and continues looking through the menu - so do I. The waitress comes back and takes our orders and Billie says, "Can we also get the Louis Roederer Crystal Brut please?" She nods her head and takes our menus. How the actual fuck can he afford that?! That wine has to cost about 300 dollars! Sure, he's in Green Day, but what the hell?! I think to myself. "I-I'm not worth $300. Seriously, I mean unless you really like that type of wine, you shouldn't buy it just 'coz I'm here," I tell him politely. "Stop doubting yourself. And plus, I haven't had this wine in forever and I hate to say it, but I'm only getting wine because me and Mike made a bet with each other," he says to me. "And what was that bet?" I laugh.
"Well," he begins, "Tré was getting us all riled up and said that we couldn't give up beer if our lives depended on it. And me, being the competitive person I am when it comes to Mike and Tré, I made a bet with Mike that he wouldn't last a week, and he said that I wouldn't last a month. Today is the first day, and you're my eyewitness that didn't see me drink a single beer." I shake my head, "That's why I don't drink beer. I'd become too dependent on it, and I'd be drunk all the time.... How are you even getting through it?" "Lots and lots of pot...and sex, but mainly pot," he responds. (I know irl he's clean, but this is before that). I laugh, and the waitress arrives with our food and wine. "Thank you," Billie and I say to the waitress.
I begin to eat - with manners - and Billie glances over at me. "What?" I ask nicely. "It's nothing...I just don't see many pretty girls order actual food, y'know? They're always on diets and stuff, but you actually eat food," he shrugs. I blush slightly and say, "Thanks.... Can I ask you something?" He nods his head and I ask, "Does Mike have a crush on me or something? Because yesterday, he asked me out on a date, and—" Billie coughs uncontrollably and causes a commotion. "He did what?" he asks me once his coughing dies down. "Well, he asked if I was taken by anyone and then he asked me out. I said I'll think about it, but I don't know how to tell him no," I explain to him.
"Well, I think you should stay away from him," he says, continuing to eat his food. "Why?" I ask, confused as to why he cares so much. "He has a habit of having a lot of one-night stands, and I consider you one of my friends so thank me later," he answers, hiding his anger. I roll my eyes and continue to eat, a silence forming over us. "I have a really important question to ask you, and I really don't know what your answer is going to be," he breaks the silence. I swallow the bite of food I've been chewing and ask, "What is it?" A form of concern forms for this man I've really only talked to and met today.
"When you sexually assaulted me the other day," he begins, smirking. I roll my eyes and motion for him to continue, "I said I always take a girl out for dinner before we get that close, so do you want to go out to dinner with me?" "Like a date?" I ask. "Um, yeah...yeah! Like a date," he responds. Well. That escalated quickly. Just say no. He'll understand. "Sure," I answer. What the f*ck?! Why the hell did I just a do that?! "Wait, really?! I wasn't expecting you to say yes," he admits with a large smile. "Yep. I-I said yes," I say in disbelief. "Are you okay with that?" he asks, full of confusion. "Mhm," I answer unsurely.
"So, I can pick you up on Friday if that's okay, but I'm gonna need your number and address," he says, handing me his phone to put my information into. For a quick moment, I think about putting the wrong number, but Billie's too nice to do that to. Once I hand his phone back to him, he decides that we should get back to the studio because he still has to record a few songs. The ride back is the same as it was going to the restaurant(except "Ballroom Blitz" played instead of "B.Y.O.B"). When we get back, I go into my office(after saying goodbye), and immediately question what I've done.
