"Thank god you're here!" I exclaim, hugging Mike tightly. "Well, yeah, Billie's my best friend. So, what exactly happened?" Mike asks. "Well, last night we got high—" I begin. "So that means I won the bet! In your fucking face, Billie!" Mike interrupts me, enthusiastically jumping up and down. "Uh-huh. Anyways, we got high and he wasn't telling me something and so I asked him about it and then he told me and ran off. I don't know where he went though..." I trail off. "I've got this. Come on," he says, beginning to exit Billie's house. He holds open the front door and his passenger car door for me and he begins driving. "Where exactly are we going?" I ask. "Well, I've got a few ideas. We'll check Christie Road, the record store, Jill's house, Tré's house, and uh..." he says. "Where else?" I ask, noticing he didn't say the last place. "Adrienne's house..." he trails off nervously. "Fair enough," I say, understanding why we would check there.
*
Off to Adie's house we went. Christie Road was a flop. No one was there whatsoever; it was completely dead. The record store closed at six today for whatever reason, and well, Mike and I walked in on Jill and some guy we've never met. So, naturally, we left as quick as we possibly could. I probably will avoid any contact with her for the next few days, just until we can both laugh about it. "Well, that was awkward," Mike laughs, which makes me laugh as well. "Yep," I say awkwardly with a dumb smile, not really knowing how to react. "Welp, I'm gonna turn on the radio now," Mike says. "Seriously Mysterious" by The Sword plays. "Getting by by staying high, waiting for the light to come to save us from damnation. God sent his only son," the song goes at its easy tempo. It calms my nerves slightly, but I still worry about going to Adrienne's house.

We park and get out. "Don't worry; she's really nice...except when she made you break up with Billie for her," Mike says with a smile. He knocks on the door and after a few seconds, Adrienne opens it with a surprised look, "Hey, guys." "Hey, Adie...uh, this is kinda weird but—" before he finishes asking where the hell Billie was, Adrienne interrupts Mike,"He just left. He was upset with me, so I told him to leave.... I know I deserve it, but...I was just so overwhelmed," she says sullenly. "Thanks," Mike says bluntly, tapping my arm, and leading me back to the car. We leave quickly and look around the streets. I see him and quickly tell, "STOP!" Mike pulls over next to the figure, and I roll down my window. "Thank god we found you!" I say as he turns towards me. His green eyes look exhausted and upset. "I needed a walk," he says, opening the back door and sitting down in the car. "Well, obviously, you were gone for over five hours," I say, slightly grumpy since Mike and I were worried for nothing. "Sorry..." he trails off. It gets silent until Mike clears his throat.

"Well, I'm gonna address the elephant in the roo–car," he begins, "Are you guys dating or...? That's fine if you are, I just want to know." "No, I don't think so...right?" Billie asks me. "We only met a few days ago, so no..." I trail off, watching the street lamps as we drive by every single one of them. "Okay then, I'm just gonna say it," Mike starts again, "You two are the most dysfunctional friends I have ever seen in my life." We all begin to laugh at the terrible truth Mike shared with us.
*
"Well, next time make sure to have him on a leash or he'll just run away again," Mike laughs before leaving. "I should sign him up for obedience training," I scoff and watch Mike close the door behind him with a laugh. "I'm not a dog, y'know," Billie pouts, crossing his arms over his chest. I snicker and grab my bag of things. "You're leaving?" he asks, letting his arms fall to his sides. "Well, yeah, I have to go home at some point," I say matter-of-factly. "Oh, okay...do you need a ride there?" he offers. "I'd like for you to, but Bear has to come too and I don't want your car to get his fur all in it...I'm just going to call a cab," I explain. "I don't mind the fur," he shrugs. "Well, I will," I say, beginning to call the cab service. He smirks and sits down next to me.
*
"I'll see you at work," I tell Billie before getting into the cab. I shut my door and tell the driver my address. I tell myself over and over that Ben won't be there. He won't because he wouldn't lurk around for that long. That would be crazy, and although he is, he knows not to hang around for that long or else I would call the cops. He can't have another run-in with the cops or else he will be held overnight. He wouldn't do that to himself; he's too selfish. "Do you want to pay cash or card?" the driver asks, breaking me away from my thoughts. I hand him the money and grab all my things. As I make my way up the stairs to my apartment, I calm down for some reason. I reach my floor and see police men investigating my apartment. "There's the owner," my neighbor says to an officer, pointing towards me. An officer with black hair and blue eyes looks at me intently, "Ma'am, is that your apartment?" I nod my head and begin to walk over towards it. I look inside and don't see anything out of the ordinary. There's only the door that Ben busted down. "We suspect a break in, but we don't have any leads...Is there anyone that you know who would potentially want to hurt you?" the officer asks. "If you could put my door into the hinges until I can get the door replaced, that would be just fine. My friend and I were goofing around and then I had to—" I begin. "If you know who did this, give me a call," he begins, handing me a card with his information, "We can place your door back, but I still recommend you tell us who did it because if this ever goes into court, and they ask, did you tell anyone about the break in, saying that you were just 'goofing around' may not be a sufficient answer." My neighbor looks at me with pity and goes back inside her apartment. Bear and I wait for them to put my door back and I thank them before going back inside my apartment. I close my door, but have to use the deadbolt to close it completely.

"Well, it could be worse," I say to myself and begin to get ready for bed. I check my phone and see that Billie texted.

Billie: did u get home safely?
Me: no i died
Billie: darn! I kinda liked u. What a shame
Me: Gnight
