CHAPTER 14: FIRST JUMP

Tao's POV~


"WHHAAAAT???!" Everyone yells, eyes wide as they stare at me.

"WAY TO GO TAO!!!" Xiumin gege jumps up and does a happy dance.

I guess he really ships TaoChae.

LOL.

"Eh? Does that mean you're going to leave me, Tao? What happened to TaoRis?" Kris gege suddenly says and gives me a puppy dog eyes.

*Omergerd*

Everyone is silent as they gape at Kris gege.

Did I just hear properly?

Did I just SEE properly?

Kris gege is giving a PUPPY DOG EYES?!

Omo, gotta take a picture.

I quickly whip out my phone and snap a picture of Kris gege and his puppy dog eyes. He doesn't mind and keeps whining.

"You're going to leave me?" Kris gege whines again.

Gee Krisus. I'm a MAN gege, I need a WOMAN...DUH.

"Hey hey! I got this all on video!" Kai shouts, waving his phone around. "We can watch Kris hyung whining whenever we need to cheer up."

"Yah!" Kris gege yells, embarrassed. "Delete it!"

"Kai, send it to me!" Baekhyun hyung shouts.

"Yah, Baekhyun..." Kris gege says in a scary tone.

"Send it to me too!" D.O hyung says.

"And me!" Luhan gege yells.

"Don't forget me!" Xiumin gege jumps up.

"Why don't you just send it to everyone?" Suho hyung grins evilly.

"Except for Kris hyung," Sehun adds.

"Yahhhh!!!!" Kris gege shouts.

"Oh? I got it!" Baekhyun hyung waves his hands excitedly.

The rest of EXO reply, equally as excited.

"Eh? Me too!"

"Omo, I'm totally showing this to Taeyeon noona!"

"Amber's got to see this!"

"The birth of the no-more-bitch-face Wu Yi Fan!"

"I dibs on showing it to Super Junior and DBSK hyungs!!!

"I'm showing it to my omma!"

"I'm showing it to Taemin hyung!!!!"

"YAAAHHHH!!!!!!" Kris gege yells.

As EXO yell and bicker, I smile to myself.

I'll make sure Chaeyeon noona has the best date ever.



Luhan's POV~


I should be happy for Tao and Chaeyeon, but I'm not.

"Hey Tao, I'm real happy for you!" Baekhyun says. "Make sure she has a date that she'll never forget." He gives Tao a thumbs up.

Wait.

Doesn't Baekhyun like Chaeyeon too?


Flashback~

Ooooohhh Bacon! Do you like that girl??!!!" Kris asks teasingly and using Baekhyun's nickname.

Baekhyun's ears turn red and he stays silent.

"Oh lala! Love at first sight!" Chanyeol says in his deep voice, while Kai and Sehun make some sound effects- that I am too embarrassed to talk about- in the background.

End of flashback~


What?

Now I'm confused.

"Wait, don't you like Chaeyeon too, Baek?" Chanyeol asks, voicing my thoughts.

"Nope."

"Ehhh?" Now everyone is like me. Confused.

"Chaeyeon is my friend and she's kind of like my little sister. Pff, me liking her in that way? Puahahaha." Baekhyun starts laughing.

Whaaaa....

"I was just testing Tao to see if he really likes her, you know. If he didn't he'd probably give up at the thought of being rivals with me since I'm so shockingly handsome and I make everyone fall for me, boy or girl." Baekhyun smirks proudly and puts his hands on his hips.

"Eww.." Everyone choruses, cringing at the 'boy or girl' part. It is followed with a few chuckles from Suho.

"Hey guys, I know you actually all love me. You love me! Don't lie." Baekhyun sings while he does a cute dance.

"Ewwww......" Everyone choruses again, but we can't help laughing.

Chaeyeon's POV~

Hmm...what should I wear?

Today is the day of my date with Tao, and he told me to dress casually.

Tao is not a distraction. I'm not using him. It's just a friendly date to help me get rid of my thoughts of Luhan. Right?

....right.

I've already decided that I should give up on Luhan. There's no point chasing after him. It's impossible and my feelings are unrequited.

Since it's only a little cold today, I decide to wear a blue a-line jumpsuit skirt which reaches my mid thighs, with light pink converse, a white t shirt inside and black stockings. I put on a light pink and white polka dot bow headband on my hair, which is down.

Before I Ieave my apartment I apply a thin coat of lipgloss on my lips. I don't really like wearing too much makeup, unless it's a really special occasion, like a wedding or something.

I take a taxi to 'Charlie Brown cafe' which is where Tao and I are supposed to meet. I arrive and I look at it in awe.

The cafe is Snoopy themed.

I see Tao waving from a corner table and I join him.

"Nice cafe." I say to him, grinning as I take a seat.

"I know! I think it's cute, that's why I chose it." Tao says smiling.

"I love Snoopy." I giggle as I watch a giant Snoopy mascot walk outside the cafe. "So, what are we doing today?" I ask.

"It's a secret." Tao says. He puts his finger to his lips and winks.

I internally squeal. He's so cute, I want to pinch his cheeks.

"Eeey....tell me!" I say, and pinch his cheeks.

"NOONA!! SHIREO!!!" Tao yelps, waving his hands around.

"Come on, tell me!" I pout.

"Only if you let go of my cheeks!"

"Okay...fine." I let go of his cheeks and cross my arms on the table.

"So..what are we doing?" I ask.

"Hmm...not telling you. Merong." Tao says.

"Yaah!" I whine.

"I'll tell you when we get there." He grins.

"Psh. Babo." I mutter.

"Aw noona, don't hate me!"

"I even thought you were cute before. now you're not so cute." I say, pretending to be angry.

Hoho.. having fun teasing him.

"Hey! I'm not cute! I'm totally manly!" Tao exclaims and flexes his arm muscles.

I've got to say...they're pretty impressive.

"Once a panda, always a panda." I poke my tongue out at him. "I was just kidding, I'm not angry. Are we going to go yet?" I ask, grinning.

"Yeah, let's go!" Tao grabs my hand and we exit the Snoopy cafe.


Tao's POV~

I watch Chaeyeon noona out of the corner of my eye as I drive. Her long coffee colored hair is slightly curled and is moving with the wind as she looks out the open car window. I smile to myself.

She's perfect.

When we arrive at our destination I take out a blindfold from my pocket and wrap it around Chaeyeon noona's eyes.

"Yah Tao! What are you doing?" She asks as I tighten the blindfold.

"You'll see." I say, and grab her hand, carefully guiding her along the path.

I look up to see the giant structure loom above us. I grin. Time to take off her blindfold.

I take it off her and I see her eyes widen in shock. She turns to look at me.

Surprised?

"Tao..what-"

"We're going bungee jumping." I say, not quite sure what reaction I was expecting.

Her face is expressionless as she looks back up at the bungee jump. A faint scream is heard as someone jumps off the structure.

Ok.....maybe this wasn't such a good idea....

Chaeyeon noona turns back to me, her eyes sparking.

"Extreme sports? This is the best! Lets go Tao!" She beckons to me and we run to the bungee jump tower.

New fact: Chaeyeon noona and I have a lot of things in common.

"Tao....its so high..." Chaeyeon noona grabs my arm as we wait in line at the top of the tower.

"I thought you were excited about bungee jumping?" I ask her curiously.

"Erm...yeah...but now it's kind of scary since we're at the top." She blushes a faint tint of pink and juts her bottom lip out.

Someone kill me now. I swear I'm going to die because of how cute she is.

We're at the front of the line and Chaeyeon noona's face is blank. I think it's the expression she gets when she's scared.

"Don't worry, I'm here. Plus, this thing is perfectly safe." I whisper to her. "Here, you can go first." I push her towards the front and smile a little mischievously.

"Eh? You can go first." She pushes me in front of her.

"Eh? Aniyo. Ladies first." I say. I turn around, grab her shoulders, and steer her in front of me.

The bungee jump manager is pretty young, probably no more than 28 years old, with a smiley face and wide grin, and he must have been watching us because he says, "There's a discount for couples who want to jump together. You two suit each other well. How about it?" He smiles cheekily as he fixes the ropes.

"Um....we're not a co-"

"How about it?" I interrupt Chaeyeon noona.

"Hmm....I guess it's less scary than jumping alone." She decides.

We pay the manager and he fastens the ropes onto us.

"Hold each other, tightly." He says and winks at me.

Whaddaya winking at, huh?

But I do kind of get your message....

We awkwardly put our arms around each other. I try to control my blush.

"No, tighter!" The manager says. He grabs my arms and force them around Chaeyeon noona. We're locked into a tight embrace.

"New couples are always like this." The manager says and smiles. "Ready?"

"You ready?" I whisper to Chaeyeon noona.

"I-I think so." She says and squeezes me tighter.

"We're ready." I tell the manager. He nods at us and gestures for us to jump.

We edge out closer to the edge.

OMO. OMMA, I LOVE YOU! IF I DIE, YOU CAN TELL SUHO HYUNG THAT I WAS THE ONE WHO STOLE HIS BIKE.

" Jump on three." I say to noona. "One.....two.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................three."

And we jump off the edge.

Chaeyeon's POV~


Waahh....so tired....

After the bungee jump, which was actually so fun by the way (we jumped twice), Tao brought me to an arcade, and then to walk around in a market place.

TAO JJIANG!

I don't think I've had so much fun in my whole life. I'm so grateful to have someone like Tao...

I've noticed he's been acting more manly today.

I giggle as he tells me his story about the neighbor's chicken that ran into his backyard when he was four.

We walk around the park as the sun is setting and the sky is a lovely orange and pink hue. The clouds look like floating pieces of wispy fairy floss, and the sun is a giant golden ball.

Tao leads me to a bench and we sit down.

"So, how was it today, NOONA?" He asks me, grinning cheekily.

.....

Is he mocking my age?

"Yah! Huang Zi Tao! I'm only one year older than you." I huff. "Don't call me noona, it makes me feel old."

Even though I'm only 18.

"Okay, sorry NOONA."

"Yah!" I hit his arm.

One bad thing about Tao is that he really likes to tease people, especially me. Bleh. He's still one of my best friends though.

"Apart from you teasing me, it was the most fun I've had in ages!" I sigh happily. "Thank you so much for bringing me out, I'm so grateful!"

"No worries. I would take you out everyday if I could. If I was with you everyday my life would be complete." Tao says.

Eh?

I stare at him in shock. He stares at me in shock.

We stare at each other in shock.

Tao puts his hand over his mouth.

And then I know that what he said was true. He wasn't teasing me.

"Chaeyeon..." Tao starts and looks straight at me, his eyes serious, "I-I..."

DUBUDUDUDDADADADADA~~~

"Sorry." I whisper as I answer my phone. I glance at Tao and he looks uneasy and embarrassed.

I get up, motion a 'wait a minute' to Tao, and walk a few meters away to take the call.

"Yeoboseyo?" I answer.

"Chaeyeon."

I freeze. Why is he calling me? I was trying to get rid of my feelings for him.

I look at the caller ID again to make sure I'm not hallucinating.

I'm not.

"Eh...whats up Luhan?" I say, trying to sound normal.

"Lee Sooman sajang-nim wants to see you to discuss something important. Come to the SM building immediately." He says.

"Ah...neh..."

"Oh, and come through the side door. Super Junior hyungs are coming through the main entrance so there'll be reporters and stuff."

I don't know...but there's something suspicious....

"Okay, I'll be there." I say.

"Um...do you need me to come pick you up?" He asks.

"E-eh? Ah, ani, I'm fine." I say, surprised that he's treating me so nicely even though I ignored him at school.

"Okay...be safe. I'll hang up now." Luhan says and hangs up.

I hold my phone tightly in my hand and try to stop the redness that's creeping up my cheeks.

'Be safe' he said.

Aish, I really can't face him. I hope I don't bump into him.

I make my way back to Tao, and I see him stand up.

I tackle him with a huge hug.

"Thank you so much, Tao, for today. I'm so lucky to have someone like you by my side." I say.

I let go and give him a quick kiss on the cheek.

"I need to go." I say.

"Do you need me to send you back?" He asks.

"No, I'm fine. Thank you and bye!" I walk away after waving to Tao.

I hail a taxi and give the driver the address to the SM building.

I reach out my hand to open the side door of the SM building.

It's only then that I realise why I thought this was suspicious.

'Oh, and come through the side door. Super Junior hyungs are coming through the main entrance so there'll be reporters and stuff.'

Super Junior sunbaes are in Japan for one of their Super Shows.

'Lee Sooman sajang-nim wants to see you to discuss something important. Come to the SM building immediately.'

Lee Sooman sajang-nim is in Busan for a press conference.

I freeze. Why did he tell me to come then?

"Figured it out yet?" A voice says behind me.

I turn around, already knowing who it is.

Luhan.

"I told you obvious lies so you could figure it out and choose if you wanted to come see me or not." He says.

I look at him blankly.

"Pffft, you only realised it then. Pabo." He flicks my forehead.

"Y-yah..." I say, unsure of what he's going to do.

"Come here." He holds out his hand.

I reach out hesitantly. When our hands touch, he grabs my hand and grips it tightly. His hand is big compared to mine, and it is warm and firm.

He leads me somewhere.

"Where are we going?" I ask.

"You'll see."

By now it's getting dark and there are few people walking. We arrive at the Han River, and the light of the lampposts glow in the dark.

He stops and lets go of my hand. He swivels me around so we're face to face.

A little too close.

"Why are you ignoring me?" He asks me seriously.

"Eh? You brought me here just to ask that?" I try to keep a cold tone. I already told myself that I would give up on him and I'm sticking to it.

"Because the answer's important to me. Tell me." He says.

I say nothing.

"That's an order, servant."

Psh. He never changes.

"Because..."

"Because what?" He interrupts.

"Yah!" I whack his head. "Do you want the answer or not?"

"I want it." He says.

With the light of the lampposts reflecting off his face, I can see that he's completely serious. There's no joking around in his deep brown eyes.

"Because..." I hesitate. Because I like you. I definitely can't tell him the truth.

"Because you're annoying." I say in a small voice.

"Oh? I know that's not the truth." He says.

Tch. He can read right through me.

"Come on, malhaebwa." He says.

"I don't want to." I say quietly.

"Why? Is the answer embarrassing?" He asks.

"N-no."

"Then tell me. I won't let you go until you do." He says seriously.

I take a deep breath. Should I tell him?

At least I'll bring across my feelings before I give up on him forever.

"Because....I like you." I say in a small voice. I avoid his eyes and turn away from him, covering my face.

My eyes widen. Did I just hear right?

I stand there, staring at her back, not sure what I should do.

I decide to confirm it.

"You like me?" I ask Chaeyeon.

She slowly turns around. And whacks my head.

Ouch. Second time.

"I like you, okay? Happy? Had enough fun teasing me now?" I can see her eyes are getting watery.

"Chaeyeon...."

"Enough, Luhan. I'm giving up on you. We can just be friends." She starts to walk away.

I grab her hand, turn her around and pull her to me. I put my hands on her shoulders and lower my head to meet her eyes. A tear falls down her face and she tries to look away.

I kiss her. On the lips.


Chaeyeon's POV~

I'm taken by surprise as Luhan kisses me. This time, it's not accidental.

It's only for a brief moment I can experience the feeling of his soft lips against mine before he pulls away.

"Chaeyeon..." He says, looking into my eyes.

I gulp.

He pulls me into a hug. I can smell his faint cologne and I feel safe in his arms.

"I like you too....but I need to sort out my thoughts, feelings and my career first. Wait for me." He whispers in my ear. "Promise me that you'll wait for me."

When he said that, every thing went blurry and I couldn't think straight. All I knew was that he liked me back.

"I'll wait for you." I say.
