***Disclaimer: I wrote this months ago and personally I think it may be a little rushed but I feel terrible that I haven't put anything out in a while because of my school schedule, which is totally my own fault. So, here you go. :)
***Before I also forgot to mention that Max Hatter is a new, recently added character, so in the world that is the older version of this book, he doesn't exist. But I love him, and I hope you do too. He makes this story better.Chapter 3: Suspicion
Dinah HeartsSuspicion: a feeling or belief that someone is guilty of an illegal, dishonest or unpleasant action
"Have you heard anything I've said in the past fifteen minutes?" I scolded my longtime close friend and new roommate, Sabrina Wonderland. Sabrina has a bad habit of getting lost in her own world. Most things distract her.
Sabrina didn't even look up from her mirrorphone. She didn't look happy but didn't look disappointed either. There were whispers of lines on her forehead from concentration. She frowned hard.
"Wonderland to Sabrina? Hello?"
Sabrina remained unresponsive. I had been twirling and waltzing around our new dorm, decorating as I pleased and making myself at home for the past half hour. Sabrina came in the room about three minutes after I did and plopped herself on the bed I hadn't already adorned with my heart-patterned sheets, pillows and bedspread. I had begun talking about how excited I was for this year and while I assumed she was listening, I was dead wrong.
Finally, I did something that I couldn't stand when my brother did to me. I clicked the lock button on the top of her mirrorphone.
"What the hex?" Sabrina screeched.
I rolled my eyes at her. "Oh look, you finally realized I was here."
"I knew you were here I just..." Sabrina lowered her phone from in front of her face into her lap and glanced around the room. "I wish I wasn't."
"I know you're going to be offended by this, but what's so great about Wonderland?" I said. I am the Princess of Wonderland, I have lived there all my life, and even I didn't see any reason why Sabrina would be so opposed to living here for a while. This was good for us.
"My whole life is in Wonderland," Sabrina responded. Another hext came in from whoever she'd been hexting.
It clicked. "Oh, I know what this is about," I said.
Sabrina smiled like her mom does, showing every sparkling white and sharpened tooth. "Do you really?"
"I know you're not missing your job or the one day of school we had this year."
Sabrina's smile drooped, but only a little.
"And I know that as close as you are to your parents, it's not them you're missing either."
Sabrina's smile disappeared now, and her frown was back and more concentrated than ever. "Well what is it, then?"
It was my turn to smile. "It's Ace, isn't it?"
Sabrina perked up suddenly. Of course that was it, whether she would admit it or not. "Please. I'm not that weak."
"No, but you're mad. And so is that boy, but times a thousand."
