It was time for me to show Squints that girls can play baseball. Also, I was a little late getting up but I got changed quickly into a white shirt with some blue jeans, I put my hair up into a high ponytail, and put some makeup underneath my eyes because I didn't have time to do anything else.
Then Squints knocked I my window I opened it and said "You could have gone to the door."
"I know but it was-" I shut my window in the middle of his sentence and pointed at him to get off the ladder.
I ran downstairs and told my Dad that I was going to show that girls can play baseball. He laughed and waved me out the door.
"It was easier to come to your window" Squints finally finished and gave me a look of annoyance which was probably from the window thing earlier. I laughed and he laughed along with me while I put his arms around his shoulders and walked to the field.
Once we got there Benny was the captain of sorts and they decide for me to sit on the bench, so I could learn how the game worked. Everyone was arguing that it was stupid to let a girl play baseball with them because girls only play softball, but they were willing to give it a try.
By this time it was 7:00 even though the game started just a while ago they wanted to see what I could do. I got up to the plate and Benny handed me the bat, he whispered in my ear "I have nothing against you playing baseball" and then he ran out to left center.
I missed the first pitch that Kenny did but hit the Second one right to Squints, on purpose of course. He didn't catch it, the ball went straight over his head. But the last pitch Kenny had thrown was the only ball that I ever hit a home run with, which was amazing because I was playing baseball with guys.
Squint was staring at me in amazement, well the whole team was but Squints caught my eye because he wiped off his glasses and because he moved out of the way of the ball, I saw it out of the corner of my eye as everyone was looking up at the ball.
When they looked back at me again I just shrugged like I didn't know I could do it.
"That was amazing" Squints yelled.
After that we all became close friends, with me helping them out they could be a real team someday, but they play because they love playing, just the pure love of the game, that is what a real team is made from.
