I woke up from my normal slumber when I remembered what Squints had said to me last night. Since we're not playing baseball tomorrow, Benny has decided that we should have a meeting about something, something we should've told you a while ago.
I got up quickly and ran to my closet because it was 6:00 already and I had ten minutes to get ready before Squints would stop by my house, he does it every day, it natural.
I grabbed a white tank top, my black jeans, and my light blue converse. I got changed and put my hair into a french braid. I was putting on a little makeup when my dad yelled to me that Squints was here, I grabbed my jean jacket and ran downstairs, said goodbye to my dad, and left the house to find Squints and Yeah-Yeah waiting for me.
"That didn't take as long as last time," Yeah-Yeah said.
"Well I'll go slower next time," I said as I put on my jean jacket.
We walked in the sandlot in silence except for yeah-Yeah and Squints whispering from time to time, it was getting on my nerves. It felt like they were talking about me, but I didn't ask.
We got to the sandlot and everyone said hi to us as we walked in. It's always awkward for me to walk in somewhere while everyone is waiting for you, specifically, to finally reach the place you're walking to.
We all sat out in the dugout, Benny spoke, "Y/n the reason we're not playing baseball today is that we've wanted to tell you something that we all should have told you for a long time"
I looked at everyone, they were all nodding their heads, "Continue" I said to Benny.
"Ok, well a long time ago The Beast, that dog behind the fence, came from a place called Mertle's Acres. It all started about 20 years ago, thieves kept stealing junk from Mertle's Acres junkyard. So Mr. Mertle, the guy that used to own the place, got a new pup from the dog pound. He fed him whole sides of beef and turned the pup loose in the junkyard. He grew big, and he grew mean so that he could protect the junkyard with only one thing on his mind, to kill everyone that broke in. But after a while, the cops started getting phone calls from people reporting all the missing thieves, the ones The Beast had killed. It added up to about 120 guys. They never found a single body. Not one. Some people say they all got away. But we all know what really happened. The Beast ate them. He ate them bone and all. The police said The Beast had to be retired. The police ordered Mr. Mertle to chain up The Beast and put him under the house where he could never get out to eat children. That's where he's been for years. And that's where he'll be for the rest of his life. Mr. Myrtle asked the cops how long he had to keep The Beast chained up like a slave, they said until forever." He finally finished.
I then said, "Really Benny you didn't have to concoct a hoax you should have came to my house and told me instead of me walking out here in 90 degrees weather." I said laughing.
"You don't believe us do you," Timmy said.
"Look through the hole in the fence, you'll believe us then," Bertram said with a soft voice.
I was about to do it until I remembered two nights ago the giant dog near the Sandlot and said to them "No. No. You guys are right." I said looking at them from where I sat.
"Sure y/n, you just don't want to be scared, and prove that we're right," Yeah-Yeah said in a joking voice playfully shoving me.
"No I saw 'The Beast' two nights ago, and you're right, said giving them pride that a girl proved them right.
"Oh really, what did it look like?" Squints asked, "Like a giant mastiff, sorta, I said.
"Well we don't know dog breeds, but I don't think you're lying," Kenny said. They all nodded in agreement, after that we all went back home.
