Shortly thereafter

Thinking back on that night, I must have already loved him. Was I in love? I'm not sure about that. I should have given it a second thought, as cold as it was, before I opened up my door to get out.

But I didn't.

One thing was for certain, I'd never met a more stubborn person in my life.

Before I began a miserable track of less than ten steps through the ankle deep snow to his car door. I took a steady breath and allowed myself to relish in the quietness of the moment.

All those years in divorce counseling turned out to be beneficial after all. I thought, as I breathed in and out.

Yes, I know, I'm crazy.

He'd already gotten inside his Dodge when he seen me approaching. The slam of the door made me jump a little, but not enough to make me turn around and go back to my car. When I reached his car door, the sight made my heart ache. He sat there with his fist up to his bleeding lip, tears lined his face. I pressed both of my hands flat up against the damp window. As I begged for him to open the door, some light from the house became evident were I stood. I looked up to notice two people peering through the living room window. Andre and Tracy they were the only two who wouldn't have enough sense to turn off the light. I heard their faint voices but chose to ignore them for as long as possible. I could barely feel my fingers the longer I stood there.

"Open the door." I said, I could see my breath resonate in the air and on the window in front of me.

I watched helplessly as he reached for the tape deck and turned the radio up over me. He swiftly pointed his thumb behind him at my car, motioning for me to move.

"Open up!" I screamed, barely being able to hear myself over Barry Manilow.

Looks like we made it
Or I thought so till today
Until you were there everywhere
And all I could taste was love the way we made it

I never disliked Barry so much than in that moment.

I almost teared up at how he was acting just as I noticed a dusting of snow beginning to fall.

Oh, we made it...

The louder I got, the more he turned up the station.

Looks like we made it
Left each other on the way to another love
Looks like we made it
Or I thought so till today
Until you were there everywhere
And all I could taste was love the way we made it...

"Get away from my car." He said, turning the knob to the music down a little. He turned the music back up after he spoke, not even slightly turning to look my way.

"I'm not going anywhere."

It wasn't long before another song began to play. He blast that one so loud, I had to step back a little.

Lyin' cheatin' hurtin that's all you seem to do.
Messin' around with every guy in town
Puttin' me down for thinkin' of someone new.
Always the same playin' your game
Drive me insane trouble is gonna come to you
One of these days and it won't be long
You'll look for me but baby I'll be gone.
This is all I gotta say to you woman...

Your time is gonna come
Your time is gonna come
Your time is gonna come
Your time is gonna come...
