I couldn't move my face out of the pillow. It was just too much for my heart to hear him say that. Love. Whatever that was, it felt different to hear him say it and it was so easy for me to reciprocate. At least verbally it was, even as unexpected as his profession had come. It made me feel all warm and girly inside, maybe I meant it.

After quite awhile I finally calmed down enough to go back to my the vanity. I noticed some nail polish had fallen on my mad dash to find a pillow, thankfully it wasn't open. Some of my nails were perfect, the dry ones, the others, not so much. Just as I sat down I heard my name being called from downstairs. It was my mom, I took a loud frustrated sigh trying to ignore her. I didn't have time to be awkward with her.

I sluggishly slid into my pink slippers, gliding across my bedroom's carpet.

"Yeah?" I called, opening the door.

"Come here." I heard her say. Her voice was stern and as serious as ever. I could tell this wouldn't be good.

"Did I do something?" I asked once I reached her in the dining room. I didn't know where to start. She already looked angry. Her arms were folded on the table as she peered down.

"Sit." Was all she said, our eyes met as I stood a few feet away from the table. Her eyes, sent chills through me as I tipped to the table, and took a seat."I bet you haven't even noticed that your step father hasn't been home have you?" She questioned, with a heavy tone.

I shook my head slowly.

"It's really sad, you're father hasn't been here since you've been here and you haven't even noticed." She said, shifting her folded arms on the table. "I just don't know what to say to you."

My eyes had found their way elsewhere, as it was too hard to stare her down. As I thought, it did come to me, that I hadn't seen Ronald or his truck.

"I sent my husband out to search for your bad ass the other night and look what happened."

"I'm your daughter."

"Is that all you can say?" She asked, looking very agitated. Her eyes, were red and her cheeks, strained with tears.

"Ma-"

"I don't want to hear it." She said, her face scrunched into a displeased expression. "I had so many expectations for you, with you being my only child." She said, shaking away tears. "But look how your turning out..."Her voice failed, and sadness seeped through. "First, a homeless bum now the same kid that had sex with Cynthia." Her words were aimed to make me feel bad, and they did.

I could only hang my head lower than I already was. "Where do you think he is?" I asked a little above a whisper.

"I don't know but you better hope he's not dead. I filed a missing persons report, yesterday."

"I'm sorry, I should've told you were I was going...bu-but I had no way or knowing what would happen."

"What did happen Licia?" She asked, taking on a tone of conviction.
