Evan was rushing this morning.
"Hey!," I said. "At least eat some breakfast before you go. Besides it's still pretty early."
"Fine." he said.
He sat down and ate the eggs I made for the both of us.
"I have a question," he said.
"Hm?"
"I've been curious but... Don't you go to school?"
"Oh, umm... Actually no. I mean I used to. But I took a break from my senior year because of some reasons. I'll probably go back next school year."
"That makes sense."
"What do you mean by that?"
"No, cause I was thinking either your year ended earlier in your old school or you dropped out."
As he said that, he was cleaning up his dishes. He was still rushing to get out.
"Why are you in such a rush?" I asked him, a little annoyed.
"I promised to pick someone up," he said. "And by the way, Joanne said she'll come over after school. And I won't be home till probably night time. I have somewhere to go."
"Oh, ok...."
"Bye!!!"
And off he went out the door.
I cleaned up the table and sat down on the couch to watch TV.
When he goes to school, I'm usually home alone and I'm okay with it. But for some reason, today, I felt really lonely. And I still have to wait 6 hours before Joanne comes.
I decided to finally give my brother a call.
I dialed his number and after 2 rings, he picked up.
Phone:
(God damn, Cam! You finally called us.)
Hello to you, too.
(Oh right, hello. Anyways, how are you doing?)
Good. Not in pieces, obviously.
(That's a good thing to hear. Sooo.... I wasn't gonna ask but.... Where are you staying at?)
At a dude's house.
(Dude?!?!? What the fuck, Cam!!)
Calm your shit, damn. Don't worry, he's cool. I'm not staying for long. Only till his parents come back. Then I plan to stay at a friend's house.
(Wait... his parents aren't home?!?)
Dude, if you scream one more time, I'm seriously gonna hang up on you.
(Ok, sorry. You know what? Whatever. I know you'll make smart choices so I'll try not to worry.)
Good.
We talked for a bit. He had to go to work so he had to hang up. When he hung up, I saved his number on my contacts. He was never the reason for this family drama so I didn't see the need of keeping him deleted from my contacts.
It was nice to talk to my brother again. He has always been over protective of me, both him and my other brother. But seeing that I'm growing up, they have lowered down their protectiveness. It made me happy though, to have two brothers that truly cared about me.
I spent the rest of the time just watching TV. There was seriously nothing good to watch but I forced myself just to past time. Before I knew it, I heard a doorbell. At the same time, I got a text from Joanne saying she was here.
When she got in, she sat down on the couch. She sat there like it was her own house, which made me giggle.
After fidgeting around on our phones for a while, I finally broke the silence.
"Hey Jo," I said.
"Yeah?" she looked up from her phone.
"Just curious but... does Evan have a girlfriend?"
She looked at me weirdly.
"Umm, no. Why'd you ask?"
"Nothing. Just curious. Cause...."
"Cause?"
"Well, last night, I saw him with another girl hugging while I was looking out the window."
"Ohhh. That's probably just his ex, Sara."
"Oh, okay."
Why would he be hugging his ex?
For the time Joanne was there, we.... did nothing. We've gotten to the point where we got used to each other's presence, so conversations weren't needed no more.
"Hey, I can't stay for long," Joanne said, finally having a conversation. "Justin and I are gonna have a study session."
"Yeah study," I said, giving her a smirk.
"Oh shut up!" she threw a pillow at me. She quickly left, leaving me alone once again.
I checked the time. It was 7 and Evan wasn't home yet.
Oh right. He wont be home till late.
Evan's POV
"Thanks for taking me out," Sara said as we took a drive around the city.
"No problem," I said. "I don't want you to be stressing, so I thought maybe this will get your mind off things even if it's just for a few hours."
The reason I won't be home yet was to keep Sara calm. The last time she overworked herself, it got to the point where her health was ignored. So to not let that happen again, I decided to take her out, not be locked in with all the stress she has to deal with.
For some fresh air, I took her to the park. Because it was night time, there wasn't any people around. We sat down on the grass and just talked like we haven't talked for a decade.
When there's nothing to talk about anymore, it just becomes an awkward silence, right? Well that happened.
I turned to my left and just stared at her. She noticed my glance and turned to look at me. I slowly reached in for a kiss, but was rejected when she moved her head.
"Evan, you know I have to focus on my studies," she said.
"Yeah, I know that," I said. "Sorry, I wasn't in my right mind."
"It's okay." She took out her phone and checked the time. "I think we should get going. It's pretty late."
I dropped her off at her house.
"Thanks again," Sara said. "It was nice to be out and have some fresh air. Especially, being with you. It felt good to drive around the city again, just the two of us."
I came home around 11. I tried to enter the house quietly, knowing Camilia was probably asleep. As I entered the house, I saw Camilia sleeping on the couch.
"Was she waiting for me?" I thought to myself.
I carried her to the guest room, gently to not wake her up.
When I set her down, she had a smile on her face.
I felt happy, knowing that she was probably having a good dream, not one of her nightmares.
Without thinking, I gave her a kiss on the forehead.
I went upstairs to my room and quickly fell asleep.
