Gabriel POV
Emily's leg is gushing blood again. I guess when she tried to stand she busted back open the wounds.
"Father, what's happening?" My question goes unanswered as he removes her pants leaving her in nothing more than her shirt.
"Leave Gabriel. I'll let you know how she's doing." He says. I do as he says and vacate the area. I go out and hear John muttering to the others.
"I knew he was a bastard." He kicks the man who's dead's corpse. I turn back around and find myself sitting with my back to a stone figure. I close my eyes and the next thing I know I'm asleep.
*A few days later*
Emily POV
I wake up cold and my head feels as though a veil of fog rests inside of it. The first thing I register is the feeling of vulnerability. I feel exposed almost as if I'm in the middle of an open field with no weapons, and a pack of ravenous wolves were stalking me. I don't like that feeling. As I wake up a bit more I can pinpoint the cold, it's coming from my legs, my feet, my fingertips and my head. I also register a bit of softness swirling around my legs. I can't bring myself to open my eyes though I know it's probably a good thing to do. As I contemplate opening my eyes, being social, I assesses my physical condition. I'm cold and stiff, I realize a dull yet still very painful ache in my legs and that veil of fog still looms over me. I try to get up which was a big mistake.
"Woah, woah, woah. Take it easy sweetie." I hear a voice say. It sounds a lot like Benjamin Martin. I open my eyes. Gee, probably because it is Emily, you're so intelligent.I groan loudly. I've always had a thing about being sick. I either, one, pretended it didn't exist and kept on doing things until I could hardly move, which I'll have you know I only did one time, or ... you know I've never done anything else. It may be hard to believe but I've only been sick three times in my entire life. None
of them were too horrible, just something small like a stuffed nose or a cold. The worst I've ever had was the flu when I was twelve years old. I was in bed for almost a month and Danielle helped me. She was always very bright and liked helping people. Danielle was also the kindest soul to ever have the displeasure of being born into this world. I swore she could have been a doctor, but she couldn't have see anyone in pain. That's why her illness surprised me so much. Danielle was always so careful and never had anyway to get sick but she did. But I had no reason to not burn in the fire that killed her, but I didn't. By pure chance I wasn't home and here I am.
"What happened?" My voice sounds like that of a bullfrog croaking after many years of staying silent.
"Well, that man, he-" Benjamin begins.
"I remember that part." I announce. He looks at me for a minute.
"You've lost a lot of blood. I wasn't really sure if you were going to wake up or not."
"Sorry to disappoint." I say and he laughs without humor.
"Gabriel's been real worried."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." It's silent for a few minutes.
"I'll send him in with some water." Benjamin announces after a minute or two of us silently staring at one another.
"Food too?" I ask when he stands up.
"If you can keep the water down then yes." He says exiting the tent.
