Insomniac

So, needless to say, you were a major insomniac. You never managed to get that 8 hours of sleep when you most desperately needed it. Your insomnia buddy Sima Zhao, who had finally started going to sleep at night like every one else instead of passing out in the middle of the day, wasn't there to talk to you when you couldn't sleep anymore. Getting to the point, it caused some problems. For example, you were about ten seconds from falling asleep during today's war council. Sitting at a long wooden table were some of Jin's finest warriors. At the head sat Lord Sima Zhao, with Lady Wang Yuanji on his left, and Master Jia Chong on his right. Sitting next to Wang Yuanji was Master Zhong Hui, twirling a lock of hair around his finger, then Master Deng Ai, moving various figures around on an intricate map. You sit next to Jia Chong with Master Guo Huai on your right, coughing occasionally.

Sima Zhao asks Jia Chong a question, and he begins to explain his answer in great detail, everyone else (except for Zhong Hui) hanging on every word. You don't blame them. Master Jia Chong possessed the smoothest, deepest voice you had ever heard. It was as if angels had handcrafted his vocal chords. The lids of your eyes began to slowly drift shut, as Jia Chong continued to describe some sort of new war tactic. Surely Sima Zhao wouldn't mind if you missed a couple of minutes. Maybe he'd ask Lady Yuanji to relay them to you later. Your eyes close as you ignore the dull throbbing in the wrist you were propping your head on. Ah, you could listen to the melody that was Jia Chong's voice for eons. As his smooth voice lulls you into a deeper slumber, your drooping head slips off of your hand, causing your head to slam on to the table with a startling 'bang.' You snap your head up with yelp. Everyone swivels their head to look at you, confused. Feeling your cheeks flush, you wish you could slide deeper into your chair or just completely disappear. You hear Zhong Hui snicker under his breath.

"Is something wrong, my lady?" Jia Chong asks. He keeps his tone and expression neutral, but his eyes...His steely gray-blue eyes peered into yours. The angels that made this man were show-offs. You massage your bruised forehead.

"I'm fine, Master Jia Chong," you assure, yawning quickly after. He arches an eyebrow at you, before resuming his lecture.

Thankfully, the rest of the war council went well; you managed not to hit your head on the table a second time. Although, Sima Zhao did come to speak to you after every one else had left the room.
Crossing his arms and propping himself against a wall he asks: "Insomnia?" to which you nod in response. Zhao places a hand on your shoulder comfortingly. Suddenly, a light goes off in his eyes and he grins. And yes, of course you're confused.

"I think I know someone who may be able to 'help'." Zhao says with a wink. Your face scrunches up in confusion and then Sima Zhao sprints out of the room. You shake your head and leave the room for your quarters.

Night falls quicker than anticipated, and you sit on your bed, reading a scroll by candlelight. You hadn't changed out of your armor, and didn't really see the need because you thought you wouldn't be able to sleep tonight anyways. As you revel in these thoughts, a knock resonates on the other side of your screen door.

"Come in."
Must be Sima Zhao's "help," you think. A pale hand with black painted fingernails pulls open the screen and steps inside.
"Good evening, my lady." A bunch of butterflies begin to float around in your stomach.
"Oh! Ah, good evening, Master Jia Chong." Smooth. He walks over to stand next to you as you lie on your bed.
"How's your forehead feeling?" He asks with a smirk. Your face involuntarily bursts into flame. Covering your scarlet cheeks with a hand you mutter: "fine."
