*Chapter Thirty-Three*
~Ray's POV~
My shoulder ached from the fresh burn of the strange black substance. Melody lowered her hand and looked at me apologetically.
“The tattoo will disappear once Amy's seal is completely destroyed. Until that happens, I'm handing my daughter to you.”
“Don't worry about that,” I assured the anxious Mother. “I would keep her safe with my life.”
“I'm really grateful, Rayden, for everything. You have helped my family in every way you could.”
“Don't mention it,” I shrugged. “I owe you my life.”
“It was my duty, Rayden. I would do it myself if I had the choice. You do realize that part of your power will be sealed as well in order to hold the seal, right?”
“Yes, I'm aware of that.”
Amber looked at me gratefully.
“Can you carry Amy to my room? I need to clean this mess,” she gestured to the fragments of ice and the completely ruined garden.
“Sure, Amber.”
“Rayden.”
I stopped halfway and turned around, waiting for her to continue.
“After this, I'm sure her brain would erase her memories. The next time she wakes up, she wouldn't remember any of us. I'll tell her that she is special and that she has grown up all her life in her room. It's going to be better for her.”
“I'm fine with that.”
“Rayden,” Amber said apologetically, “I'm sure you and Amy will be great friends once again. You just have to start from the beginning.”
I didn't reply to that but walked away, carrying the unconscious Amy in my hands. She was sleeping with a contented smile on her face. If forgetting everyone, including me, is what it takes for her to be the cheerful Amy she once was, then I guess this was better for her, to forget everything horrible that has happened.
Little did I know that I was completely wrong.
I shook my head to clear the memories that I tried so hard not to think about.
“Where's Melody?”
The startled servant gaped at me with horror in his eyes. Annoyed, I shoved him aside. That's when I smelled blood. Lots and lots of blood. My heart sunk when I realized that it was Castina's blood. I felt dizzy just thinking about it. I really hope that Amy had stayed where she should have stayed.
“Ray?”
“Melody,” I couldn't help but feel relieved that at least someone was fine. “What's going on?”
“A demon,” she answered and nodded her head towards the top of the mansion. A pretty high-leveled one was leaning against the wall, scanning the crowds below. His eyes met mine for a brief moment before he looked away. “Something's telling me that this is not as simple as it seems.”
I narrowed my eyes and glanced around me. I stopped underneath the aged tree and jumped as high as I could. I hand touched the branch of the tree, and I gripped it firmly. I easily swung myself up and repeated the process several times until I reached the top of the tree. With another leap, I landed just behind the demon. I straightened myself from my position just as a trace of blood dripped down his chin. He turned around to face me and wiped the blood away. He seemed pretty annoyed about something.
