The fake boyfriend (A bethyl story)

"Who's that?"

When we arrived to the Hotels restaurant,I instantly felt sick; I let my Mom and Dad walk in first and I stopped by the entrance.

I felt two muscular arms tighten around my small waist and turned around to see Daryl "What's wrong?" He asked.

"Nothing shall we go in?, good acting by the way" I laughed nervously and untangled from his grip.

We walked into the restaurant which looked really clean and posh but also had a hint of glam to it.

I saw Maggie in a gorgeous red plain sleeve dress taking to a relative.

"Maggie?" I semi-shouted.

She turned around and ran to give me a hug, "Hello you two!" Maggie says releasing me from her hug and giving Daryl a hug.

We walk over to where the dinner party is and I see a few amounts of people laughing and joking.

(Only close family and Friends of course because everyone else is invited to just the Wedding)

"They're bringing the food out now,so if you'd all like to take a seat"Glenn shouts over the loud conversations.

"Hey,Bethy come sit by me" Maggie calls reaching out for my hand,I walk round and take a seat by Maggie,who's sitting by Glenn.

"Where's Daryl?"I ask Glenn.

"Here"A low voice calls behind as I turn to see Daryl sitting next me.

"Can you stop disappearing from me"I laugh.

"Nope"He says as waiters and waitresses start serving us all food.

I begin to fork at my food,when someone catches my eye as I realize it was my ex boyfriend,love of my life Liam.

"Shit"I say barely audible.

"What?"Daryl asks looking around in a panic.

"I got lost finding my room"Liam laughs taking a seat opposite me.

"Oh.."Daryl says quietly understanding me 'shit' outburst.

I look to Liam who immediately makes eye-contact with me making me feel uneasy and tense.

"Oh hiya bethy"Liam says smiling

I feel myself blush and Maggie kick me underneath the table at the same time.

Liam starts making small talk and I quickly turn to Maggie "What was that for!"

"You've got a boyfriend, who cares for you more than Liam obviously did" Maggies says wide-eyed.

I had also forgot that I have a 'boyfriend' so I turned to see Daryl eating his food.

"Hey what's up" I whisper planting a kiss on Daryl's cheek as he mumbles something.

I notice Liam's staring at us,"oh so is this your new boyfriend"

"Name's Daryl and yes"Daryl says angrily.

"I'm Liam,Beths Ex boyfriend"

In that moment I pray for the ground to swallow me up,whole, the table goes silent as I begin to panic at how awkward this is.

"Let's just underline the word...Ex,He's a dick and always will be" I say panicking forgetting where I was as I felt my parents beady eyes burning a hole through my head.

I look to Liam who is looking shocked and embarrassed.

"Excuse me" I say getting up and making my way to quickly exit the room.

"Shit" I say as I reach outside and kick the wall.

How am I gonna go back in there now! Well done Beth you really do know how to make things even worse.

"Are you okay?"A masculine voice calls who I notice straight away as being....

.....Liam's.

I look blankly at Liam and turn the other way.

"Listen I'm sorry by the way I didn't mean to......hurt you" Liam says softly as he brushes his hand through his light brown hair.

"What do you mean? of course you did! you can't accidentally have an affair for  over two months" I'm so hot and sweaty right now and seeing Liam makes everything come back to me.

Everything that took me ages to heal and move on.

I take a deep breathe in and shake my head.

"Can't we at least be friends I've missed you" Liam says reaching for my hands but I decline.

However,I did give a small smile as that sentence made me feel like I was 20 again.

No! I think but then I do really miss Liam we were friends before we eventually got together.

"Sure" I mumble as Liam embraces me with a hug.

"Come on, let's go in and pretend like this never happened yeh?" Liam winks.

I smile and we both head back inside,I ignore all the eyes staring into my very soul and slip into my seat by Maggie.

"Where's Daryl gone now?"I ask rolling my eyes.

"He went looking for you but obviously someone beat him to it" Maggie says referring to Liam.

I wait two minutes as Daryl reenters the room.

"Where did you go?" I whisper

"Cigarette" He huffs.

"Maggie said you went looking for me"

"Nope just a cigarette" There's something really off with Daryl when he says this, he doesn't even smile but I choose to ignore him when he's in these moods.

The rest of the night was a success everyone was laughing and joking.

I didn't see Daryl for the most of it he was however being sociable with meeting my family.

When practically everyone went up to bed I was left downstairs at the bar about to swig my last mouthful of what ever the bartender cooked up for me.....
