It's been seven years since the last time I've seen my father and Lucia. Its been a year since my mother was murdered by one of her ex-lovers, he was a special one, Rico was from Mexico and owned a shotgun. The police suspected him last. It's also the year anniversary for when I moved in with my cousin, Jessica, to Forks, Washington. Sadly, this was also the day I'm returning to school for senior year. Jessica was trying her hardest to cheer me on since she is in my grade as well. At least I knew one person.
"Vet! Come on we have to go in five minutes. I want to meet Mike at Tyler's van before class." Jessica shouted up the stairs to my room. My hand flinched and the mascara wand stabbed into my eye like an unwanted booty call. I groan softly and wipe he messed up makeup and redo it. My hair gets pulled into a bun, leaving the bangs out, and a red bandana tied around my weird insane head. I pretended to sing to my favorite song before pulling my black leather jacket over my red crop top which rested above my high waisted faded blue shorts.
Jessica's patience was running dry while I walked very slow down the stairs, blasting Take On Me. I couldn't help it, it was a top song on 'Sing In The Shower' playlist and I was in the mood for a-ha.
Jessica laughed happily and tugged us both out the door while she joined me in the horrible duet but at least it was fun. She started up her pink buggy and we pulled out of the driveway, and speeding down the street to our senior year. I connected my phone to Bluetooth and blasted it even louder. Times like this was honestly my favorite with Jessica, and her only. She was basically my only friend in the entire school. Yes. That's sad.
"Look! There is Mike! And Tyler~~" Jessica nudged me roughly while we pulled into the parking lot. She's been trying forever to hook me up with this so called Tyler but I don't know him too well and want to focus on school for Veterinary school. I climb out after turning off my phone and grabbing my one shoulder keyboard backpack. I slung it over my shoulder and walk over to Jessica's group of friends.
"Yo yo yo yo she's alive~!" Mike laughed at me. An Asian boy laughed softly while a black boy laughed and knuckle punched Mike. The only reason I know Mike is because he's been to Jessica's house for 'late night studies', if you get where I'm coming from.
"Shut up you sack of under cooked chicken and shit." I roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest. This made the Asian laugh louder this time.
"Yo, she is a roaster!" The black boy laughed loudly. Suddenly a white Jeep pulls into the parking lot with a very muscular man standing in it. My eyes couldn't detach from his bulging back muscles while everyone else talked around me. Jessica laughs out loud suddenly making me jump and look at everyone with a tiny blush.
"Don't waste your time, Yeti," She giggles at my nickname. "Those are the super popular people that everyone loves but they hate everyone else. They literally stay in their family circle." Everyone in the group nods but I glance at the guy in the Jeep once more.
"I wasn't staring." I mumbled snd played with my black nails.
"Mhm and I don't like girls. Both of those things are totally false." Mike laughed.
Thankfully, the bell rang for first hour so I ran off to the stairs going up to the school building from the parking lot. Before I knew it, my foot got caught under a root and i lurched forward. Where the hell did that root come from?! I extended my hands as they smash against the pavement, my knees did the same. My bag spilled out all of its contents while my face barely hit the ground.
People continued to walk past me and i glared at them all. Except for the guy I noticed in the Jeep. He leans down and grabs my wrist, pulling my body up. It took all my self control not to flinch at his freezing hands. Well it is getting closer to winter.
"You okay?" A deep, probably smirking, voice calls out. My eyes wander up his muscular torso and all I could think was dayum.
"I'm uh.. alright I guess. Falling in the first day kinds sucks." I giggle slightly and run a hand up and down my arm. Just as I noticed my bag and was about to lean down and grab my stuff, a girl appears out of no where and helps me. Her pixie hair cut burned a memory inside me but which one?
"Here you go!" She smiles and hands me my stuff.
"You guys didn't have to help me." I blushed, embarrassed once again and just wanted to stab myself 70 times in a row.
"Of course we did, silly!" The girl giggles and smiles. "I saw your schedule and we have our first hour together." She continued. Oh thank the Lord!
"Oh sweet." I smile barely and glance up at the boy. Butterflies burn inside me and he refused to break the stare. The girl noticed, giggling.
"Come on we're already late!" She grabs my hand and tries dragging me up the stairs, which I gladly let her. I turn around to expect the guy to be gone but he is right on our heels.
"Gotta escort the girls to class." He grins slightly. "Don't want anyone stealing them." The guy winked and walked like he owned the place. Oh he has so much pride, I couldn't help myself but to think like that.
When we reached our class, the guy nodded a goodbye to me and disappeared down the hall. The teacher scolded the girl and I but pointed to our seats in the back. Thank god!
"Yay, we get to sit next to each other!" She smiled brightly and tugged me to my seat, next to the window. The cold morning breeze felt good on my burning, embarrassed cheeks.
As the hour went on, I began to wonder... was his eyes golden?
