Chapter 12: New Year
"Let's get this party starteeeeeeed!" Lauren shouts as she struts through the door with Sophie and Danielle in tow.
"Hey Asia, How's it going Sam?" Sophie and Danielle ask together. In there hands they clutch matching yellow sports bags which I guess holds their overnight stuff.
"I've been better," Sam laughs, clutching my hand tightly. They giggle and follow Lauren to put their stuff in my room. "Are you excited?" Sam asks me. "Your first new years party?"
"A little," I shrug. "Ok, I'm super excited, thanks so much Sam for planning it in a day."
"No worries," he smiles and walks off to check the food. Mum and Rob said it was fine to have a party, as long as the house doesn't get trashed.
"It won't," I'd laughed earlier on today.
"Remember, we'll be back at about two so we want everyone gone by then, and you should be in bed by then too." Mum had reminded me earlier.
I breath out a shuddery sigh. What if everything gets out of hand? What if everyone goes crazy and wrecks everything? What if the police have to come? I walk around the house, locking every door people aren't allowed to go in. I leave the lounge, kitchen, a couple of bathrooms, dance hall and a few bathrooms unlocked. I peek into the dance hall and see the early evening light creating shadows on the wooden floor. The food table is set up and every type of food you can think of is on there.
Jelly, pizza, cake, chocolate, sweets, biscuits, fizzy drinks, fruit, salad; sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls, pork pie, cheese... EVERYTHING!
It's going to be the best party of the century.
I glance around and see the sound system and songs being checked by Sophie and Danielle's geeky older brother Ryan. He waves to me kindly and walks over to me. "Gosh Asia, how are you? Your big now!" I feel a bit taken aback by that actually, until I realise that he's talking about my pregnancy.
"O, right," I mumble, masking my confused expression with a smile. "oh, they're fine. They've been kicking each other a lot lately."
"It's normal for that to happen at your stage in the pregnancy," he smiles and walks back to where he was working. I frown into the distance. He's always been a weird guy, and he always creeped me out. Just the way his bright red hair sits mid way on his half moon glasses which perch on the tip of his nose, makes him look about fifty and a professor from Hogwarts. Beneath his hair, are dark eyes which almost match his pupils. If I was correct, he looks like something out of a horror film with his way to big jeans and tops.
"Come and get ready Asia!" I hear Lauren's far away voice call me. I smile like a loon and run off to get ready. Lauren is standing by the door, dressed in a blue party dress, with silver heels and her beautiful brunette hair straightened. Her make-up is done to perfection and a huge grin is spread across her face. "Come on," she smiles, taking my hand and leading me into the room, she won't stop smiling. She plonks me down in front of my dressing table and begins to curl my hair.
"So," she asks. "Who's coming tonight?"
"Um... Lot's of people from school, well about half of the school which is crazy! They're bringing their older siblings and friends who are bringing their friends who're bringing their friends. The place is going to be jam packed! It's going to be so fun though." I tell Lauren as she sets to work on my hair.
Behind us, I can hear the twins giggling and I can see them out of the corner of my eye trying on the different dress they've bought with them. They've been lot happier since their Mum has begun talking and interacting with them again. Sophie told me that it's like having their real Mum back again.
"Awl, I love it Lauren," I giggle after she's finished curling my hair. My hair has been curled into tight but loose curls and my side fringe has been swept to the... well side. I slip into a cute little dress that's sequinned at the chest and them flows into a beautiful white fabric that ends just above my knees. I slide my feet into golden heels and put minimal make-up on, but it matches perfectly.
I step back to admire myself in the mirror and everyone stares at me in awl.
"You look beautiful," Sophie ad Danielle whisper together looking at my beautiful outfit.
"Thanks, so do you." I reply staring at their dresses. They've decided on matching dresses, shoes and jewellery. Sophie is wearing a cream colour whereas Danielle is wearing pink. They both have crinkled hair and their fringe is straighter then usual.
"Are ya'll excited?" Sam booms, running into the room wearing a white crisp dress shirt and tightish jeans above white trainers. He looks super sexy. When he catches a look at me in the mirror his smile is so wide and his eyes are full of love and lust. His eyes scan my body, and I don't care if I'm fourteen, nearly fifteen, he could have me right now. I bite my lip and stare back at him through the refection in the mirror.
He walks up to me and Sophie, Danielle and Lauren back out of the room saying that the first of the guests have arrived. I peer through the curtain and gasp. Only the first of the guests have arrived and already everything is filling up. The driveway is half full and about fifty people are walking around in the garden. I can feel the thud of Pixie Lott All about Tonight booming through the large speakers and thundering throughout the house. I can hear chatter and dancing from downstairs and I feel a rush of electricity run through me. Somehow though, I feel a surge of panic and look out into the garden. I see Michael (you remember Michael? Lauren's brother?) with a large group of friends, one person however catches my eye. His back is towards me and yet he looks so familiar. His dark brown hair is spiked up and cut at odd angles, in his hand he clutches a glass, of what I suspect is alcohol, in his right hand and occasionally lifts it to his lips to drink it. How can someone's back be familiar? I think as Sam wraps his arms around my waist.
"Come on," he whispers and leads me out of the room. "Lets groove."
