Nora entered the bustling café. Smells of different types of coffee and the sounds of the coffee machine surrounded her. She scanned the area with her amber eyes, unconsciously searching for that one particular male, Alex.
"Hi Nora," Briana greeted her at the counter, "The regular cappuccino with two sugars?" Nora gave her a small smile and nod. The café manager knew her too well.
There was no sign of Alex, even after she scanned the shop for the second time. Furrowing her brows, she asked, "Where's the waiter, Alex?"
"Oh, today's his day off. He always takes Friday's off." A dejected feeling began to fester in her chest - she was disappointed that she couldn't see him today and to make it worse, he hasn't called her yet, since she gave him her number a couple of days ago.
"Oh," was all that she said. Her tone showed dispiritedness – she tried her best to cover what she was feeling, but the sensation was too strong. She was really getting attached to a cute little waiter.
Briana chuckled softly – she had a feeling that Nora liked Alex, more than a waiter and Nora's facial expression and tone confirmed that. She cleared her throat, "Anyways, was that just a cup of cappuccino with two sugars?" She repeated the order. Nora's gaze had switched to the glass displays of scrumptiously decorated cakes next to the counter. Just the look of those cakes made her salivate.
"Actually, can I also have a slice of that caramel cake please?" She pointed to the slice of caramel cake – it was magnificently decorated.
"Sure, is that all?" Nora nodded her head. Briana clicked on a few buttons on the touch screen.
"Was that eat here or to go?"
"To go please," Nora had to do some house chores today, which consisted of vacuuming and laundry – boring.
"Alright, that'll be nine dollars, thanks." She handed her a crisp ten-dollar note and Briana handed her change and receipt in return.
Nora scooted to the side to wait for her order, and once she received her items, she opened the café door and made her way back to her apartment.
As she got home, she took off her boots and hung her jacket on the coat hanger. She advanced towards the kitchen and placed her cake in the fridge – she was going to eat it later. Tying her coffee coloured hair in a ponytail, she walked towards the desk and turned on her laptop.
Okay, first, time to finish this design and then do the chores, she made a little note in her, as she sipped her on her warm beverage.
She had just finished doing all of her chores. Nora whisked to the kitchen to grab a glass of water, however, on the way, her phone buzzed, signalling an incoming call.
It was an unknown number, however, it lit up a little excitement in Nora's chest – she had a feeling that it was Alex, who was finally making a call.
Picking up the call, she answered, "Hello?"
The person on the other side hitched a breath before saying, "H-hi." She recognised the voice – it was Alex. Her excitement in her chest was blowing.
"Um, hi, this is Alex calling...uh, I was wondering if you're free today..." Nora knew exactly what he was talking about – he was talking about the dinner.
"The dinner? Yes, I'm free." Her response was fast and her voice came out more delighted than expected. Shoot, I'm getting all jumpy for this, she thought.
"Um, well, I was thinking that, um, we should have the dinner...um, at my place, maybe?" Nora furrowed her brows. The dinner was supposed to her treat for him.
"But the dinner was supposed to be on me."
"Um, well, I-I," Alex stuttered – he was becoming very nervous, "I was just thinking that it-it'll be a g-good idea... you know." Nora smiled, even though she couldn't see him, she knew pretty well that Alex was blushing - It was cute.
She let out a small chuckle, "Yes, I know and I guess, sure. I'm up for it." She could hear him breath out a sigh of relief, "Where do I meet you?"
"I-I'll send you a text message with my address on it and the details."
"Alright, I'll see you...soon, I guess?"
"Yeah," She clicked the 'end call' button and a few moments later, she received a text message with Alex's address and meeting time.
6:30pm was the meeting time, which meant she had four and a half hours left.
She was thrilled, she was more than just thrilled – she was on the verge of hopping up and down in delight.
I can't wait, she thought.
