Mixed feelings

Alex felt a soft pair of lips on his – they were Nora's lips.

She just had given him a kiss!

His eyes widened and brows rose. He was shocked to the bone by the unexpected kiss. He didn't know how to respond since this was only his fifth or sixth kiss out of his whole lifetime.

Alex didn't dislike the warm feeling of contact – in fact, it made his heart flutter and stomach churn with delight. His hands shook from the joy.

Nora quickly took her lips off his once she realised what she had done. Her face mirrored his – both full of shock. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I-I really didn't mean to do that." Her speech was haste and her cheeks were a crimson red. She was so embarrassed.

She didn't know what triggered her to make such move. She wasn't even sure if Alex liked her in that way.

The atmosphere became awkward and tense. Alex quickly said a 'goodbye' and dashed out the door. He was embarrassed too. Even though he liked her a lot, the kiss still had shocked him quite a bit.

Oh god, he's going to hate me so much now, she thought. Her chest started to fill with pain at the thought of Alex ignoring her and her entire existence – she dreaded that.

She briskly took a shower and drowned herself in work – she didn't want to think about what just happened.

*********

Nora made herself some breakfast, after she awoke from a relatively sleepless slumber – She tossed and turned in her bed with no ending to her train of thoughts that she couldn't get rid of. The scene replayed over and over again – it was sort of agonising to watch.

The expression on Alex's face dampened her heart.

Her phone buzzed next to her, as she ate her cereal – Alex had texted her.

Hi, I was wondering if I could meet you at the park near the Café at 2pm tomorrow. I'll be waiting for you at the benches near the pond. We need to talk.

Alex.

Oh god, what should I do? She thought. She didn't want to see him as she was scared of the destructive thoughts running in her mind right now – What if he wants to cut all contact with me? What if he doesn't like me in the way I do?

Her 'what if' questions were starting to give her a headache and contributed to more pain in her chest.

Even though she dreaded it, she had to reply – she said 'yes'.

A little later into the afternoon, her doorbell rang. Nora furrowed her brows – she wasn't expecting anyone today. Creeping up to the door, she glanced through the eyehole. It was Heather. What is she doing here? She thought.

"Hi Heather," she greeted, "What are you doing here?"

"I'm just visiting. I haven't seen your place in a while, can I come in?"

"Uh, sure. Come in." She didn't feel like having any visitors today, since the events of yesterday was still fresh in her mind – she didn't feel like talking. But since Heather was her sister, it was an exception.

"Wow, your place is so nice. Did you get new furniture or something? It looks different." Heather was aweing at her surroundings.

"Yeah, just some few stuff." Her voice was quiet and toneless. Heather had a concerned expression on her facial features – she knew something was up.

"What's wrong?"

"It's nothing." She tried to brush it off.

"Your face says differently."

"It's...It's nothing." Nora could feel her throat close, as she chocked out those words – She was going to cry. The thoughts of Alex were beginning to be too much for her.

"Nora, tell me. What's wrong?" Heather said sternly and that was when Nora's waterworks started – she was balling her eyes out. Heather rubbed soothing circles on her back and guided her to her couch – she felt slightly weird for comforting her five years older sister. It was usually Nora comforting her instead.

"It's about Alex." She said between sobs, "I-I kissed him." Heather was confused – what was wrong with that?

"He had this look on his face...I don't think he liked it very much." The words she released made her cry harder. Heather was astonished at her sister – she had never seen her like this before. She realised that Alex meant a lot to her.

"He must've been shocked. Just give him some time to think about it. He'll come around." Heather herself wasn't sure about what she said, but she tried to make her tone as convincing as possible, for her sister.

"He wants to meet up tomorrow. At the park, at 2pm." She wiped her tears with the tissue Heather handed her, "I'm...I'm scared. What if he rejects me? What if he wants to break all connections with me? I...I can't." she said, terrified.

"It's going to be okay." Heather soothed, "Everything is going be alright."

I hope, Nora thought.
