Mr. Fong, my father's close friend and business partner helps me transfer from the bed and into my wheelchair. It has been a few days since I was questioned by the police and I hadn't heard a word since. Dr. Shires finally allowed me to be released from the hospital saying that I had made "significant" improvement in our therapy sessions. Mr. Fong crouches down to my level and gives me a small smile. His brown monolid eyes wrinkle and his eyes have a glassy look to them. His hair was still its deep brown color for someone his age, and his skin was clear, pale and glass like.
He's still mourning the death of his friend.
"I know that you are just a kid and this is a lot to take in right know but you're going to be okay, I'm sure of it."
As he stands up, Dr. Shires walks in with a small smile on her face as she held a yellow sheet in her hand.
"Good morning Scarlet, how are you?" she asks.
"I'm okay."
"So I may be gone for a while but Dr. Jones will fill in for me for your therapy sessions each time you visit. These are just reminders of your next appointments" she says as she hands me the papers. As she extends her hand I noticed a bandage on her arm that I hadn't noticed before. Nobody would have noticed she always wore her white coat that covered her arms just as the other doctors did.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"It's nothing. I had a difficult time having another patient of mine calm down."
I nod my head politely, not pressing her for answers. She has her issues. I have mine. None of us have to get emotional and tell each other our life story besides we are nothing more but strangers.
"Other than that I hope your leg gets better soon. You should be able to be on crutches by next week."
After bidding our goodbyes Mr. Fong wheels me out of my room and out of the hospital. His black BMW was parked in the first row of the parking lot. Upon reaching it he helps me get out of my wheelchair and onto the backseat. He closes the door and places my wheelchair in the trunk of his car. He gets into the driver's seat and turns the car on and drives out of the hospital.
As he drives he glances at me from the rear view mirror.
"While you were at the hospital your uncles took custody of your home. You will stay with us until we can get ahold of one of your relatives."
"You didn't have to do this" I say quietly as I look out the window.
"It's nothing everyone would have done the same thing."
The car suddenly comes to a stop and thanks to my seat belt I did not end up with my face squished on the head rest of the seat in front of me. Before I could even ask why he stopped a black truck with tinted black windows had its front passenger seat window and fired a round of shots, the piercing its way through the front window eventually caused it to give in shattering the front window leaving the two officers in the police car unprotected. My eyes widen in fear as I begin to notice that the people that were in charge of my parents case were now lying dead in the car in front of us.
