I hear a knock on the door, and I immediately hop off the couch and set my book down to go get it. Before I open the door, I compose myself, repeating stay calm over and over in my head.

"Hey," Adam says, stepping inside when I open the door.

I say hey back and try to relax myself. I walk to the couch, and he follows me, looking worried because I'm being really silent.

"Georgia, what happened? Was it something bad?"

He couldn't get mad that Danny kissed me and I kissed him back, right? We were friends anyway. It's not like I'm cheating on him. So why do I find it so hard to tell him? I don't have any idea how he might react.

"Danny kissed me," I whisper. He starts to fume, but before he can punch a wall I tell him, "I kissed him back, though."

Adam's eyebrows raise, and his eyes widen just a fraction. "Oh?"

"And I agreed to go out with him if he doesn't fail the test next week," I finish, waiting to see if there is an aftershock to his calm demeanor so far.

"Um—okay, I guess." His eyebrows arch. "What am I supposed to do about it?"

I run a hand through my hair, not really sure of what to say next. I just really felt I should get it off my chest, that maybe he wanted to know. Now, I just felt awkward about the entire ordeal.

  "Nothing, I guess," I mutter.

"Look, Georgia, I have to go," he says suddenly. He didn't look to be in much of a hurry when he knocked a few minutes ago. "I'll see you tomorrow." And without another word, he heads out of my front door.

Well at least it didn't go as bad as I expected. It didn't go as well as I hoped either.

*~*~*~*

The days to study for the big test start to dwindle down, and soon enough it passes by. Some people are anxious to know what they scored; others couldn't care less. I, on the other hand, was nervous about two tests rather than one.

Adam hadn't talked to me much since I told him about the kiss. Sure, we still ate at lunch together. We still went to the tree, but he was really quiet and said few words. I knew why of course, but we were just friends.

And now, today, he hasn't said a word. We were all getting our tests back, and I was more worried about what Danny got on his than the grade I earned on mine.

Ms. Cobb hands me my six-paged test, and I hurry to look at what I got. A huge 96 was written in red permanent marker. I smile at it, and look to my right at Danny, hoping he has the decency to look right back at me. He does. He waves his test at me, grinning like a madman.

  76. He got a C+.

The bell rings right after Ms. Cobb hands the last test out, and Danny is at my desk in a second.

"Dress casually. I'll pick you up at seven," he says with an air of arrogance.

"See you then." I walk past him and start off to my next class. I don't miss the disappointing look from Adam.

The day passes by too quickly, and soon enough I'm debating on what the I should put on for a "casual" date. Shirt, jeans, and some Chucks? Or the yellow dress that I wore that Sunday Adam was at the church?
