There was no way I was sitting with Danny and his friends again. Not that they were rude or anything, which they were, but the drama that comes with eating lunch with the guy is already too much.
But the worst part was that he started noticing me again. He acknowledges my existence, and I don't want him to. The first time he did, Adam looked like he wanted to bash his face in. And with the candid persistence he has, Danny might push it farther than last time.
I'm not in much trouble anymore, since I skipped detection two months ago. But that fact didn't get me out of being Danny's tutor. Principal Houston proclaimed that I was one of the smartest in my grade, that it would just make sense for me to tutor him.
It adds fuel to a dim fire, and the rumors get more bizarre as the days move on, especially when they add Adam to the mix.
English class. Another note. Danny Edwards. Apparently he wants to talk about the test coming up next week when he already knows that today is when he is supposed to come over. He wants to talk after class, and for yet a second time, I don't mind listening to Ms. Cobb drone on.
Lull me to sleep for as long as you want, Ms. Cobb.
And the bell rung. The class files out. Adam rolls his eyes and leaves. And Danny is waiting for me, ready to give me one of his corny pick-up lines that are slightly more intelligent than the ones he usually says.
"So the test–" he begins.
"We'll talk about it later," I deadpan, not wanting to stay in this class with him longer than necessary. "You're coming over anyway, so we'll start studying tonight." I put my pencil case in my backpack and walk as fast as possible.
It was totally useless since Danny has legs as long as the Empire State Building, but a girl can dream, can't she?
Even so, Adam pulls me away from Danny before I can make a clean escape to my next class. He earns a dirty look from me, but he ignores it completely.
"I got a detention. I forgot to mention it at lunch, but Wench gave me one for having an opinion about science." He ruffles my hair and gives a weak smile. "See you tomorrow. Tell me how everything goes, and if he's being screwy, call me."
Adam was gone before I could scold him, but it didn't stop the scowl that took over my face.

"What was the theme of The Outsiders?" I ask on the brink of snapping my pencil. How in the world does someone forget a question they answered two minutes ago?
"I don't know, okay? I don't know, and I will never know. Can we take a damn break? My brain is fried, and I'm hungry."
Deep breaths, Georgia.
I push myself off the couch and decide to make sandwiches. "Five minutes," I mutter before heading off into the kitchen. "We're taking a five minute break."
He sighs and sinks back into the couch, rubbing his temples with his thumb and forefinger.
I hum the tune of Winter Valley and put together the sandwiches quickly, but nice enough to not look sloppy. By the time I get back to the livingroom, Danny's feet are kicked up on my coffee table, and he's flicking through the channels on TV.
I nudge his legs off to the side to get them off the coffee table and hand him his sandwich. "I said five minutes, and you turn on the TV like you have the time to actually watch it." I grab the remote and shut it off.
"Well, Georgia, you said we could have a break."
This guy, I swear.
"And you can understand the definition of a break, but you can't tell me the theme of a book? Yeah, okay."
Danny huffs and sets down his food. "You said a five minute break, so don't start this until our time is up."
I bite my tongue. I figure it wouldn't do me any good to say something if he always has an argument that he feels the need to say.
I chew the last bits of my sandwich. "Break's over."
He throws his head back and groans. "We never have any fun. It's always read, study, and go home. Why can't we change it up a bit?"
"Because all I'm required to do is read and study with you. You wouldn't have to deal with me if you had just got good grades in the first place," I snap.
"Loosen up, G. We have a week before the test anyway. Wouldn't you rather go grab an ice cream instead of being an English drill sergeant all afternoon?" I roll my eyes. "We don't even have to leave your house. Do you want to watch a movie?"
"You have time to watch movies and eat ice cream on the days I don't tutor you."
He gives up. Danny just shakes his head and picks up The Outsiders and stares at me until I feed him another question. The rest of the afternoon goes smoothly, and I can honestly say that he's gotten a little better at answering some of the questions.
It isn't until it's time for him to leave that he says something else.
I walk him out and am just about to close my door. Then I hear, "Georgia, wait."
I open my door wider.
"I'd like to make you a deal," he suggests, a smirk spread across his face. One of my eyebrows quirks up. "If I don't trash my test next week, I'm taking you out."
"And if you do?"
He smiles now. "And if I fail," he takes a daring step towards me, "I'll never ask for another break."
I'm too scared to say anything with how close he's gotten. I want to speak, but all I can focus on is how much closer he could possibly get. His eyes are blue, I confirm. He's definitely taller than I thought he was, I think to distract myself. And now that I have a decent look at him, Danny isn't even that ugly... at all.
I force my eyes to stay on his and not look anywhere else. The only reason I have these thoughts, I conclude, is because he's put me in a compromising position. But no matter how many times I try to tell myself that, the more I know I'm fooling myself.
I'm just like every other girl, but I'm not sure if I care.
"What do you say, Georgia?" Danny whispers, his breath fanning over my face.
I open my mouth to say something, but nothing happens. I'm not focused on what he's saying, and he sees that as clear as day. He keeps looking at me, and I stare at him, each of us daring the other to look away. But neither of us do. And he leans closer, and I don't move.
His lips brush mine, and I don't move. I can't. I don't want to. I close my eyes the moment he does it, but I'm staring at him the moment he stops.
"Deal," I manage to whisper, and another smile breaks out on his face. Danny finally takes a step back and says goodnight.
I close my door and think over how quickly everything escalated.
How do I go from trying to escape Danny Edwards to kissing him at the end of the day?

Me: Something screwy just happened... it wasn't Danny's fault though
