"They're what?" I gasped.
She nodded her head solemnly. "They said that you are too powerful, that they couldn't keep you in their cage anymore. In order to protect the citizens of the United States, they've decided to get rid of you, once and for all."
"I don't understand," I admitted after I stared at my toes in silence after a few minutes. "They've kept me for twelve years, how come they can't do it now?" Maybe because of Ross.
"Because of Ross," she mimicked my thoughts. "They sent him in, caused by curiosity. But never did they expect, that you're so determined, after his presence."
My mind still swam with queries for Anna.
"Why specifically and particularly him, out of all the men in the world?" I questioned. "As you might've suspect, he also has unique gifts. He has the powers to calm someone down," she responded.
I thought about his rigorous hands, the careful caress on my cheek. The feel that sent my heart slowing down. How come I've never noticed?
"How about me?" I breathed, my voice tremulous.
"Quite completely, the opposite," she replied, then looked carefully into my eyes. My heart sped up. "Laura, you must calm down," Anna urged, trepidation in her tone. That even made me more agitated and concerned.
She must saw the fear in my eyes. "Is that why I'm dangerous, is that why everyone is petrified of me? Because of my power?" I asked, my voice brittle. "Laura, you must under-" I cut her off. "And for twelve years I've been thinking I've done something wrong, but only to find out it was what I am, what I've been born to have." The rage against the Creators was so strong. "How would you like to feel? Trapped in the dark?" I bellowed.
"You must understand," Anna pleaded again. And this time, I tried to breathe and let her speak. "They were only trying to protect the citizens, and more importantly, you." I couldn't help it- I retorted immediately after hearing her statement.
"You think they were helping me, when all they were doing is making me doubt myself, making me want revenge, you call that a benefit for me? Is being in the dark a cure for my horrifying power?" I stomped towards her, quickly and angrily.
"Don't waste your anger on me, Laura," Anna said dryly. "When you realize that one of the two people that is here are really trying to assist you, you will regret everything you've done." She made her sentence like a fact, making my nerves reach the top.
"Stop acting like you know everything!" I screamed at the girl."From what I know, is that you did something wrong, and you are going to pay for it. The hell I care if you are trying assist me, because as if right now, you are doing quite completely, the opposite." I mimicked her on my last sentence.
Something crossed her eyes, causing her face to being apologetic. "I'm sorry," she whispered lamely. "I don't need your sympathy," I turned away from her, my whole body shaking from anger.
"I'll assist you, starting right now," she promised, ignoring my last couple words. "How?" I didn't mean to get my voice so rude. She didn't seem to mind, "everything you need. Like escaping." Her eyes glistened as the words tumbled out of her mouth.
"We have to find Ross first," I whispered stubbornly. She nodded as an agreement, and slowly, twisted her doorknob. In midway, she paused, and motioned for me to hide behind the door. I obeyed quietly, tip-toeing to fit into the crack.
The door opened swiftly, and I heard Anna squeal. I stopped breathing. Her squeal made my heart beat more accelerate. "I heard someone screaming," Scratchy Voice murmured. "It was me," Anna lied smoothly. "I saw an ant." A few quiet seconds, followed by Anna's snap of a finger, I stepped out of the door's shadow.
"Hurry," she whispered as she closed the door. Once I was out in the hallway, she opened the door again. "Let's mask your face," she decided. I bit my bottom lip. This girl really likes to change her mind. I closed the door, softly, once I got in.
"Here," Anna placed a hat on my head, and helped me put on a shade. I trembled slightly. The darkness that took over was just too familiar. "All done," she announced after helping me pull on a leather jacket. "You look so pretty!" She squealed. Not the time.
I rolled my eyes. "Let's just go," my hand flew on the doorknob, but Anna stopped me. "Wait," she gestured behind the door. I rolled my eyes again, and stepped behind the wooden door.
I heard her twist the white doorknob. "Alright," Anna smirked,"time to get on an adventure."
