Hello, everyone, coffeecakecrumbles back again with another new HP article for all of you Potterheads!
I'm glad to be here again, and I have an interesting topic for you guys today—paintings! Now, I know that the subject of paintings in Harry Potter is something we all know about and isn't something that we need to know more about, per se.
Buuuuuuuuuut, I wanted to say that I've recently had an HP marathon (it's something I do on a monthly basis, at least) and I took notice to the Fat Lady—also, shoutout to Fandom of the Month Club for my gorgeous necklace featuring our dear Gryffindor entryway—and I remembered about the moving pictures in the series.
And so, I am here to discuss the amazing characters we are introduced go through art in Harry Potter.
The Fat Lady is featured first in The Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone and allows all Gryffindors into the Common Room. She stands at the very top of a staircase, which is helpful for easy access into Gryffindor Tower. In the movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Fat Lady goes missing after Sirius Black came into the school and "attacked." Before then, after their first night at Hogwarts for year three, the Fat Lady sings until her cup shatters—not because of her voice, though—and finally moves so that students can easily head to bed after eating dinner in the Grand Hall. In the series of movies, there are two different actresses to play the Fat Lady.
Sir Cadogan was a painting that assisted Harry and Ron from the seventh floor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was one of the (said) famous, shining Knights of the Round Table; those who served King Arthur during his rule. Though he was one of the Knights, he was known for his hot-headedness, his temper and being reckless.
The Hogwarts Headmasters are all displayed in the Headmaster's office and move, no matter if the past headmaster is dead or alive.
The Daily Prophet, of course, is not a painting, but does contain moving snapshots of the wizarding world and wizard's lives. Similar to a GIF file, the Daily Prophet may have an article with a moving picture, but soon enough, the picture will start from the top and loop.
Maybe you knew all of this—most likely, but if you want to know more about the paintings at Hogwarts and throughout the Harry Potter series, check out pottermore.com and read through J.K.'s short articles about the wizarding world—maybe you didn't, but I am very glad to have shared with you all again, and I'll see y'all in October, when we can celebrate Halloween alongside all of Hogwarts!
