How We Can Stop Terrorism:

A thought that came across my mind yesterday deeply disturbed me. I wondered if there was any country in the world, that hadn't waged wars or had a terror attack on them? Sadly, no name came to my mind.

Have we humans, a miraculous species according to doctors and scientists, that have existed for over four billion years, forgotten what it is to love others? Do we have to, for the simplest and little things, fight violently and cause a havoc?

I feel humanity has gone on a vacation- if anyone knows where, please let me know. I would like to visit that serene place too.

I was just studying the World Wars for a history test, and I realised that here we are as students, learning the details of these gory wars just to obtain meagre marks on our paper, but not understanding how much it affected the people all around the world; the families of the soldiers, the nurses providing first aid to the wounded while fainting from exhaustion themselves. I see pupils learning pages after pages and reciting them like a mantra without the wince of an eye, the twitch of a muscle.

Here I am, typing away to glory in my comfortable bed, a chilling chocolate milkshake on my bedside table, while thousands of soldiers are getting shot, crumbling like bricks of a ruin to their deaths, their families waiting for eternity for them to come back. The amount of brutality and killings happening in the world around me is shocking- but what's even more shocking is how oblivious I am, we are, to it.

Terrorism is growing, and we don't realise it. It is called 'terror'ism for a reason, and writing about it isn't helping. Tweeting about it isn't helping. Posting pictures with captions of stopping terrorism and showing sympathy (often just verbal) to victims of war and terror attacks is good, but it doesn't really make a huge difference.

So what does make a difference?

Being kind does. You may laugh at me, how does kindness help, you ask?

To stop a problem, we have to find the cause of it. Terrorists do their job either because they feel neglected, oppressed and are simply looking for attention or for the simple issue of money. By being kind to those around us, we not only make them feel good, feel cared for, but also spread a lot of positive energy around us which may reach someone who is about to step into the underworld. We can be kind and offer people jobs, even if they are small, menial ones and improve employment in our country so that people don't seek out dishonest ways to earn money.

Yes, it is small, and yes, it seems insignificant, but sometimes working at the grass roots level has the best effect.

You are justified in asking: Can something as simple as being kind stop such a huge problem like terrorism?

We may not be able to stop terrorism completely by being kind, because it is an issue that is a bit tricky to tackle as it caused by the minds of the people, and we may only influence the minds of people, but not control them.

But what we can do is try our very best to be influential, let our words and actions be so genuine and sincere that they hit even the hardest of hearts, and then I assure you, magic will happen.

World peace doesn't seem like such a far-fetched idea anymore, does it?
