Now I know getting a bunny has its ups and downs. However; you want to consider choices, like adoption, or getting your bun bun from a breeder. Casjmere I got from a friend off of Facebook because at the time the pet store in town did not have a bunny. I highly recommend adoption for the simple fact that most people get their kids bunnies for easter, not realizing they are NOT toys. They do NOT like to be picked up, or cuddled.
Adopting a bunny is easier too, because 9x out of 10 they are already tame. You do need to realize that bunnies are prey animals, there for will be afraid of cats, dogs, and other animals. So the bunny relies on you. He will learn to love you but you must gain trust, because his first owner abandoned him, aka gave him up for adoption.
You shouldn't have any problems with the gender deciding, the Pet store should tell you the gender.
However, if you choose to go to a breeder, you want to know the gender. The photo below will show you the difference between a male bunny and a female. As I mentioned before rabbits do not like to be picked up so if you are gendering a rabbit be nice, and hold him on his back and hold him close to you so you can see the genitalia, make sure the bunny is comfortable. I recommend the breeder to show you how to pick the bunny up, and have the breeder check the gender.
The reason you should not constantly pick up your bunny is because a rabbits bones are brittle, they are brittle creatures.
Start off with ONE bunny. Rabbits do not get lonely (companion rabbit wise) they do get depressed being away from their owner for a specific amount of time though. If you decide to get two bunnies please note: rabbits are territorial; Two males will fight till the death of one another, two females will be okay together only if they have been housed together before, or are from the same litter, a female and a male rabbit will not be good together unless either the female or the male is fixed otherwise you will have a whole load of bunnies on your hands.
Casjmere is a male, as I mentioned in Chapter one. And if you plan on getting two males, it is possible to neuter them however you may need to neuter both of them, and as I mentioned with females the boys should have either been of the same litter or housed together previously.
