I shot up from my comfortable position on my bed when I heard a loud banging noise. I'm assuming that it was just a cell door or something, because if it was something serious I'm pretty sure that there would be people screaming or yelling. I sighed before moving so I was sitting on the edge of the squeaky bed. I rubbed one of my hands down my face before getting up with a big sigh, I stretched my back and let out a groan of pleasure when I felt one of my bones pop. Running a hand through my hair, I left my cell to go find either Rick or Carl, or if I'm lucky I may even find Daryl.
I didn't notice that I had zoned off while I was walking until I walked into someone. "Oh I'm sorry" I mumbled as I stepped back to see who I had bumped into. Rick stood in front of me with an amused expression on his face. I smiled sheepishly at him as I tucked some of my hair behind my ear before apologising again. "Anything that I can do to be helpful?" I asked.
He looked at me in thought for a few seconds before finaly saying something. "Come with me, you can work with Glenn and who ever he's taking out on a run today." He said as he gestured for me to follow him as he headed towards the cell blocks exit. I followed casually behind him, taking in the prison as we went along in hopes of familiarizing myself with it. We passed a few people on the way out, most of them giving me suspicious or dirty glares as I walked pass. Which was understandable, as I was a new addition to their group that they didn't know that well, they had a right to feel like that. We passed Carl on the way out, he was say at a table feeding the child that I learnts name was Judith.
"Good morning Carl" I said to him, stopping so I could address him. He snorted and looked up from Judith to me, "More like Good Afternoon" He said with a smile. I was shocked, did I really sleep in that late? I must have been more emotionally exhausted than I originally thought.
I heard Rick make a tsk sound from behind me "It's not good to lie son" he said, I turned to him to see that he had a smile on his face. Caro laughed so I turned to him again "You had to see the look on her face, it was gold" he said with a laugh, Judith made some baby noises ultimately stealing Carl's attention from the conversation at hand. I turned to face Rick with a shocked look "Wait I'm so confused" I mumbled.
He just chuckled and started to walk the way that we were originally going. What? I thought to myself as I stumbled to follow after Rick. "Wait did I really sleep that late?" I asked as I caught up to him, now matching his pace alongside him.
"Nah, Carl was just messing around, some of us are still asleep, we're just the early birds." He said, nothing else was shared as we had reached a group that was standing around a car that was parked in front of the gate that I had entered in the other day.
"Glenn," Rick addressed the asain man that turned towards us as we approached. "How many are you taking on the run today?" He asked as he came to a stop in front of him.
"It's just me Michonne, Tyreese and Daryl today" Glenn replied, sending me a subtle sideways glance. "Do you mind if Beatrix comes along with you for today?" Rick asked as he gestured to me. I smiled at Glenn and extended my hand to him "Hi Glenn, I'm not sure we were properly introduced the other day, I'm Beatrix although you can just call me Bea if you want" I said. He took my hand and smiled at me as well, although I could tell that he didn't fully trust me, and was hesitant to let me go on this run with them. "Sure, if you could get Daryl for us that'd be great because we are ready to head out now." I smiled and turned to Rick.
"Do you think I could have a weapon? I left all my stuff at the place I was staying when I saw Daryl." I asked sheepishly, knowing that it might be hard for them to let me possess a weapon when they only met me the other day. To them I am still a stranger with unknown intentions. "When you find Daryl, ask him for one and he can sort you out. You'll find him on the west side, he's working at the fence. Taking down those walkers that are building up around that side." He said as he pointed in a direction that I'm assuming was west.
"Alright" I said, starting to walk in the direction that Rick was pointing at before. He lingered back, talking to Glenn in what they thought was a subtle way. At least for any other human it would have been, but I was able to hear it from a good distance.
"She seems to nice" I heard the distinct sound of Glenn mumble. "And you're sure that we can trust her enough to let her come with us" he continued "She seems harmless enough, she hasn't had interaction with people through this whole virus thing so she doesn't know how bad it is." Rick said
I was all the way over to the west side where I could see Daryl poking a long stick with a sharp point on it into the heads of the dead that piled up against the fence when the conversation between Glenn and Rick began to fade. "Hey!" I called out to him as I approached him, he stilled his movements and turned to face me, before continuing with his previous actions.
"Rick said that I was able to accompany you guys on your run. Glenn said that they are ready to head out now, they just need you." I said as I watched him pull out the stick and rest it against the fence. He pulled out a red rag from his back pocket and wiped some of the blood splatter that had dropped onto his hands. "Oh, and I need a weapon, Rick said that you would be able to get me one" I said as I rocked on my feet, waiting for a reply from him.
He just grunted before walking off towards the building, I followed behind him humming a tune to myself quietly as I looked out at the feild, noticing as a few walkers broke through the tree line, and the various ones scattered across the feild.
When we reached the room in the prison that contained the weapons, Daryl handed me a small handgun. I looked at it and back at him "um, do you have a knife instead, I'm better with mele weapons" I trailer of as he looked at me with a blank look on his face. "Like a- like a sword... Or an axe, maybe jus...maybe just a knife.." I said quietly, feeling uncomfortable. Back home my parents taught me how to weild all kinds of weapons, I was interested in fighting and all that came along with it, yet we did not have guns like the humans had created, we did not have that kind of technology. I've never weilded one before, let alone know how to aim it correctly, I'd be a danger to everyone around me.
He looked at me like I was crazy, probably wondering how I had survived this long without a gun. He just rolled his eyes before picking up a machete that sat on one of the tables and handed it to me, along with a holster for it to attach to my belt. I smiled at the weapon, happily securing it at my side. I looked up back to Daryl only to find that he had already made his way outside. I scurried after him as he made his way towards the group that was headed out for the day. This is going to be exciting, I missed being out in the open, I felt trapped in this place.
